| Our July Jyotish Star of the month is multi-faceted Vedic astrologer Steven Highburger of San Rafael, California who I first met when we were the two Jyotish speakers on the topic of Longevity at the last NAMA conference in Albuquerque in 2013. He gave a great interview to Charlotte Benson of Phoenix you will really enjoy it. Steven practices many of the Vedic sciences including Jyotish (Astrology), Ayurveda (Medicine), Hasta (Palmistry) and Vaastu (Vedic Architecture). He has travelled extensively both living abroad and in India. You | | | will really enjoy his interview as he traverses the path which led him to study Sanskrit and the Vedic knowledge.
In Planetary Tips the moving signs this month are the nodes of the moon Rahu and Ketu. Always retrograde in motion they move back from the Aries/Libra axis into Pisces/Virgo. Also moving and to the relief of many is Mars who will finally leave Virgo and wont be back for a couple of years. The full Moon in Sagittarius on July 12th is Guru Purnima when we honor our teachers.
Planets are always transiting, or on the move the fastest, the Moon moves 10 degrees every 24 hours and goes through a 30 degree equal sign in three days Saturn takes approximately two and a half years to do the same transit! Jupiter takes a year to transit a sign. Rahu and Ketu, always opposite in degree take approximately 18 months to transit a sign. The slower Vedic planets that we track (Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu) will all change signs in 2014. Their combined effect will exhibit a pronounced effect on mundane events and individual experiences just as a full moon brings high tide the combined effects of these 4 who stay longer in a sign are important parameters for growth.
For this reason we are offering a new column in the Jyotish Star each month while Jupiter and Saturn are exalted (until November) surrounding the sign the current Sun (or apparent path of the Sun, to be precise) is transiting in on the first day of the Month. [Jyotish Star July 2014 Gemini Sun Shines! By Vachaspati Christina Collins] In no way does our new column in its entirety represent a thorough delineation of the combined effects of all of the planetary transits (Venus, Mercury, and Mars are major players too) for an individual. Further, the time period (Vimshottari Dasa, Chara Dasa, Yogini Dasa) that an individual is running (when it is a planets turn to play its card) will deeply affect the chart and influence its current transits. (if the dasa of Jupiter for example is in play, for a Cancer or Scorpio or Pisces lagna then the good effects of Jupiter will be heightened and more pronounced in effect! For an in depth understanding please consult your Vedic astrologer for the meaning of the synthesized focus.
The August Jyotish Star of the month will be Jyotisha Barbara Pijan Lama of Portland, Oregon Interviewed by Juliana Swanson of Hawaii. |
