Planetary Tips

July 1st to July 31st 2014

by Vachaspati Christina Collins

July 1st we have the transiting Sun midpoint in Gemini, Ardra Nakshatra. Mercury, retrograde and sandi at 00°19 as it moves back towards Taurus and by 9:00 am will go direct staying in Gemini. Venus is also midpoint in own sign of Taurus. Jupiter exalted in Cancer forms Hamsa yoga with the Moon in its own sign of Cancer. Mars continues direct in Virgo, Saturn continues in exaltation in Libra and the nodes, Rahu in Libra and Ketu in Aries move ever closer to retrograding (they are always retrograde, just as the Sun and Moon are always direct in motion) back into the signs of Pisces and Virgo. Ketu, the moksha karaka (significator of enlightenment) will produce deeper spiritual experiences for many, especially those with placements in Pisces (if the individual intention and focus is present). Rahu in Virgo lagnas gives the Virgo opportunity for self-focus and self-discovery. These nodes present in these lagnas will bring the karmas of relationship into play for these signs sometimes new will form in other cases relationships will be lost. In either case there will be change. The slower moving planets as they stay in a sign for long periods of time, afford us the opportunity to focus deeply upon the nature of the house they occupy (whatever house that is for us). If they cross the lagna and 7th house of partnership, our focus will go there. If for example they transit the 4th house of home and fixed assets and the 10th house of business (for Gemini) then the focus will be on 4th and 10th house matter, even education or our businesses. In every case, and this is true natally as well, wherever Ketu is placed either by birth or transit we should keep a good focus on the matters of that house.

July 1 Rahu and Ketu become sandi at 00°59 of Libra and Aries. A few hours later, Mercury will go direct in Gemini. When Mercury, Rahu and Ketu all transit at zero degrees (just changing signs) it is unstable for the mind and decision making. Each of these three planets are known to act like the ruler of the sign they are in, or like the planet who influences them by conjunction or other aspect. July 1st is a Tuesday, ruled by the accident prone planet Mars. And the second that the nodes go sandi at zero, the Rahu/Ketu and Saturn all aspect the 4th house of vehicles. So take caution when travelling this day true when it begins Jupiter will be exalted in the ascendant, and it is felt that Jupiter in the 1st house heals a chart. Still with Mercury going sandi at almost the exact time as well, you could get spaced out or distracted when driving.

July 4 Independence Day for the USA we will have Rahu, Ketu and Mercury all at the same sandi degree of 00°46. Also there is a Moon Mars conjunction in Virgo (Mars is ruler of the 8th for the sign Virgo) Add to this for locations where the lagna or rising sign is outside the nodes there is a genuine reverse Kala Sarpa yoga (where all of the planets are outside of the nodes) so be sure to keep an eye on children around fireworks and the other eye on the barbeque or open fires or electric appliances.

July 5 Mercury reaches 1 degree in its own sign of Gemini.

July 6th and 7th we will have the Moon hemmed between malefics Rahu and Saturn, in Sadi Sati (conjunct Saturn). These couple of days will be the last time we will have a Moon/Rahu conjunction in Libra for 18 years. (It takes Rahu and Ketu 18 months to transit a sign and 18 years to go through all 12 signs of the zodiac).

July 8 The Moon will move to Scorpio its sign of debilitation. However this year debilitation is nicely cancelled as the Moon will receive an aspect of Venus in its own sign by opposition and the trine of exalted Jupiter from Cancer.

July 11 Mars goes sandi at 29°00 Virgo which will be its final pass through Virgo for the next couple of years.

July 12 Full Moon in Sagittarius. Moon will look full the night before, the exact opposition occurs in the morning. This is the very special full moon when the moon is in the sign of Sagittarius ruled by Jupiter (Guru or Brihaspati). Every year we honor our teachers on this day. What is unique this year, and only happens every 12 years, is that Jupiter will be exalted in the 8th house of transcendence in 2014. In the west it is common to offer gifts or send flowers to our living teachers. Below is a quote from Wikipedia.

Guru Purnima is a Hindu festival dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. This festival traditionally celebrated by Hindus and Buddhists, to thank their teachers. It is marked by ritualistic respect to the Guru, Guru Puja. The Guru Principle is a thousand times more active on the day of Guru pournima than on any other day. The word Guru is derived from two words, 'Gu' and 'Ru'. The Sanskrit root "Gu" means darkness or ignorance. "Ru" denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore one who removes darkness of our ignorance is a Guru. Gurus are believed by many to be the most necessary part of lives. On this day, disciples offer puja (worship) or pay respect to their Guru (Spiritual Guide). It falls on the day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadh (JuneJuly) of the Shaka Samvat, Indian national calendar and Hindu calendar

On July 12th Venus will become sandi at 29°00 Taurus out the way out of its own sign. Usually an exact trine of Venus and Mars can be romantic, but not so much when the planets are both at 29°00 or 00°00 degrees.

July 13 Rahu moves to Virgo and Ketu moves to Pisces in the morning. This will influence the Jupiter exalted in the sign of Cancer. Ketu will mutually aspect Jupiter by trine. (Jupiters 9th trine aspects the Ketu and Ketus 5th trine aspects Jupiter). Note that when this happens, Rahu will conjunct Mars in Virgo in very tight conjunction, both sandi at 29. Also see below that on the 13th Venus will move to Gemini and Mars will move to Libra. This will all happen on a Sunday so take caution if you have to drive, if you dont stay home. Even if these changes dont happen in your own 4th house of vehicles, someone on the road might be a Gemini rising driver who spaces out causing accidents!

Later in the evening we will have the exact conjunction of Mars and Rahu at 29°59 just after Venus moves to Gemini to join Mercury and the Sun. with all of this movement in the Earth signs Virgo (and the Moon will be in Capricorn also earth and Venus no longer improves the earth sign of Taurus we can expect earth changes like earthquakes and difficulties with vehicles while on the road. (and Jupiter will no longer be vargottoma in the Navamsa charts).

July 13 Mars moves to Libra.

July 16 the Sun will reach the end of Gemini at 29°00

July 17 the Sun moves to Cancer and joins the exalted Jupiter. The strongest conjunction is when Jupiter is with the Sun.

Just after the Sun changes to Cancer, the moon will move to Pisces forming the first Moon/Ketu conjunction with the new placement of the nodes. A few days later the exact conjunction occurs.

July 18 Moon exactly conjuncts Ketu by degree and Mars is in an almost exact kendra from the Sun. This is a very weak Moon for taking action. However it is very good for meditation and spiritual quests.

July 20 Saturn will go direct in exaltation in Libra!

July 21 the Moon will be in high exaltation in the morning, on a Monday, the Moons day. This will be heightened and expanded as Moon is the dispositor of the exalted Jupiter. There will be solme danger of fires and pitta conditions (anger, rashes, bug bites) because Mars will throw its 8th aspect at this moon in close to the same exact degree. (Mars will be 3°33, Moon 3°00) and the Sun combusts Jupiter as well.

July 23 the Moon will join Jupiter and Mercury in Gemini until the 25th. This nice conjunction of three benefics will continue for three days.

July 26 the New Moon in its own sign of Cancer.

July 28 Mercury moves to 29°00 sandi in Gemini in the morning than to 00°00 Cancer in the evening.

July 31 the Moon will move into Virgo joining Rahu in Virgo for the first time in eighteen years. The Moon will be in close conjunction the first couple of days of August, then it will spend three days with the Mars/Saturn Conjunction in Libra. Travel and communication will be difficult for these 6 days, so consider this when planning your travelling or vacation driving.
