The Jyotish Star September 2011

Editorial by Vachaspati Christina Collins

Our Jyotish Star of the Month is Santa Fes Sat Siri Kalsha. Sat Siri is known as an expert in both the Krishna Murthi system of Jyotish and the Jamini System. (the predominate system of Jyotish which of course she also knows is called the Parashara System from the great seer Maharishi Parashara.

We publish just as the Sun leaves his home and own sign in Leo for Virgo moving ever closer to its son, and enemy Saturn. Surya sadi sati continues for a couple more months. (Suns 7 years close influence to Saturn)

Sadi Sati is when Saturn transits in the 12th house from the Moon, the house where the moon is posited, and the 2nd house from the Moon. Literally Sadi Sati means 7 and years. It is a long influence and happens 3 times in an individuals lifetime. When we say, Sadi
Sati" we are referring to the Moon. However, we also have Surya (sun), and Lagna (rising sign or ascendant) sadi Sati. We even experience Lagna pati sadi sati. This is when the ruler of the rising sign, or Lagna (in sanskrit) experiences Saturn transiting through the 12th, 1st and 2nd houses from itself. So, as the Sun transits (Gochara) through each house, when it moves into the 12th from Saturn, the house where Saturn is positioned, or the 2nd house from the Saturn (and we speak of the transiting, not the natal Saturn) the full light of the power and leadership of the Sun gets a bit dampened down, due to the restrictive nature of Saturn. See Planetary Tips

We have our Vata season beginning, which in Ayurvedic medicine refers to late September to October through February (in the western hemisphere).

The Autumnal Equinox occurs in 2011 on September 23rd

So enjoy the beautiful fall foliage everyone! Stay warm.
