Planetary Tips

September 21st 2011 to October 18th 2011

By Christina Collins for Jyotish Star September 2011

We begin the sidereal month with the Sun just moving into Virgo with Mars in Cancer creating temporary cancellation of debilitation (in an angle from the rising sign also Cancer). This happens any time a planet transits in debilitation (the least friendly sign to the planet, making that planet less effective to produce positive results). Each rising sign rises for approximately 2 hours in a 24 hour period. So 4 times for approximately 2 hours a planets debilitation (in transit) is cancelled.

Mars transits in Pushyami, the nakshatra held in highest regard as stable (ruled by Saturn) and nourishing. Pushya consists of 3 faint stars reminiscent of a cows udder. The constellation Pushya is called The Flower.

Mercury continues transiting through Leo in its friends the Suns sign, and Venus continues in debilitation in Virgo with good friend Saturn. This combo can create a detached quality. Venus, the planet of love, and what we love, conjunct Saturn the planet of detachment and renunciation is not the most conducive combination for love happiness. It can bring an okay connection between couples where there is a large difference between chronological age -- or, in the case of a connection between a father and a daughter. Love will improve in scale and connection a little later in the month on October 4th, when Venus moves from debilitation in Virgo and into its own sign of Libra. As this occurs Venus will receive the 4th aspect of Mars, the planet of manifestation and passion while Venus is in Libra Chitra the star belonging to Mars. However, keep in mind, that Venus in its transit for the next year, will be compromised, whatever the sign, as Ketu continues to transit in Taurus, in debilitation, a sign which Venus rules. Similarly, as Rahu transits in debilitation in Mars the ruled sign of Scorpio, it detracts from the manifestation ability of Mars. Additionally, as Rahu and Ketu, along with Saturn continue to transit in near degree (around 23 or 24) with two in Earth signs (Ketu in Taurus and Saturn in Virgo) we will continue to see earth changes, add Rahu in fiery Mars ruled Scorpio, and Mars in Cancer, we will see fires and water incidents increase.

Keep in mind, the Moon has no enemies; Mars is even yogkaraka, the power planet as ruler of an angle and a trine for Cancer. However auspicious that is for Cancer rising, the fact continues that Mars debilitates in the sign of Moon ruled Cancer, and Moon debilitates in the sign of Mars ruled Scorpio. They debilitate in each others signs. So, they weaken each other. Mars will be debilitated until the end of October not too bad. It is very intense, but will be over soon. Mars orbit is unusually as compared to the other planets, as it goes up and down a funnel or corkscrew as it transits around the earth. When Mars transits near the bottom of the funnel it is close to earth, and more dramatic in its impact. It moves about a degree a day (and each sign is 30 degrees in the equal house system), transiting fast and close. Other times, when Mars is at the top of the funnel it can be months and months in a 30 degree sign. The closeness of Mars to earth contributes to the current fires burning in the western United States.

Transits will improve next year in January 14, of 2013 when the nodes will leave debilitation, Ketu in Taurus and Rahu in Scorpio.

For those of you studying, creating or needing Muhurtas or auspicious dates for taking action the need to place these debilitated planets in cancellation of their debilitation (neecha banga raja yoga) is currently necessary.

The bright news coming is that Mercury will exalt on September 23rd, adding intellectual clarity and a spark of hopefulness to the Sun/Saturn/Venus Db conjunction in Virgo. Sun will be in Surya sadi sati, but the debilitation of Venus will be cancelled as it is aspected by a transiting exalted planet (Mercury). Regardless, a stellium (3 or more planets in a sign) can often produce dramatic results, so check which house Virgo is in your chart, both from the Ascendant and the Moon for indications of where you need to focus. (by position however this list elaborates for each chart, be sure to consider the aspects and where they fall as well. Opposition will be the sign of Pisces

AriesService to the Dharma

GeminiVehicles, Home and fixed assets
CancerSiblings and Communication

PiscesMarriage and other contract type partnerships. (For the already married relationships prior to marriage are the domain of house 5 the house of love and its affairs.

September 21 Mercury (and a Wednesday) will be sandi at 29°00 and leaving Leo.

September 22 Mercury moves into exaltation in Virgo (joining Saturn, the Sun, and Venus cancels the debilitation of Venus. However, Venus will be hemmed in between the malefics, Sun and Saturn so love will still fell a little squeezed, and not in a good way.

October 3 Venus reaches 29 of Virgo preparing to leave debilitation for her own sign of Libra.

October 4 Venus arrives in Libra, her own sign, moving opposite Jupiter in Aries.

October 9 Mercury becomes 29 Virgo beginning to move out of exaltation and into conjunction with best friend Venus who resides in Libra.

October 10 Mercury moves into Libra.

October 13 Sun and Saturn will be in close conjunction, both at 26. They are enemies to each other (Sun is the son of the Sun and enemies) already, but combustion (the sun getting too close) in an earth sign . . . can create more fires. Look out for fire dangers. Jupiter and the Moon will be in Aries, both at 13 degrees (8th from Virgo).

October 17 Sun moves to 29 Virgo just about to change signs to debilitation in Libra.

October 18 Sun moves to debilitation in Libra. At least it will be supported by its dispositor, Venus and his best friend Mercury residing in Libra.
