The Jyotish Star – May 2017

by Vachaspati Christina Collins

Our Jyotish Star this month is Mr. Arya Bhushan Shukla the current President of the ICAS (International Council for Astrological Sciences) in New Delhi, India. He will be one of the keynote speakers, along with Vinay Aditya in June 2017 at the Jyotish Kumba Mela held in Pennsylvania each year www.jyotish.com I am sure you will enjoy his interview about his life in Jyotish and about his close relationship, with the late Dr. B.V. Raman of Bangalore, India. And, if you can attend this conference, he is a very knowledgeable and brilliant speaker on any and every topic of Jyotish.

Conferences for Jyotish begin with the Pennsylvania conference with many notable speakers travelling from India to speak. Some have been working with Jyotish for over 60 years. You will learn things at this annual event, that you may never learn from books, or from somewhere else.

The Sedona Vedic Astrology conference will be held in late fall hosted by Dr. Dennis Harness. We will be presenting articles from each of his keynote speakers in the 3 months prior to the conference in late November. Also, for the beginners out there, this conference will have an all day preconference intensive just for you, given by a panel of speakers. https://www.sedonavedicastrology.com/

Also, there will be a notable Vedic Track of Jyotish speakers at the next UAC (United Astrology Conference) which is held every 5 years, this time in Chicago in May of 2018. There are early bird prices periodically so please visit the website www.uacastrology.com and check out the speakers. Charlotte Benson and I will both be teaching two classes. There will be an Organization Day the Wednesday prior to the conference, and ACVA (American College for Vedic Astrology) will have the top ACVA speakers speaking in an 8 hour intensive on topics unique to Vedic Astrology (Jyotish). Be sure to book your room as soon as you have your reservation to attend, because many (hundreds to thousands) of people from around the world attend this event. In addition I will be teaching on the Health and Wellness track on Astrological DNA (Ayurvedic/Medical Astrology). Charlotte and I hope to see many of you there. People from many different countries have booked already!

Planetary changes will be challenging in May. In fact, we delayed publishing the May issue of the Jyotish star for a day when Mercury strengthened. Retrograde at 00’10 Aries, Mercury stood on the brink of falling back into Pisces and debilitation (even though conjunct exalted Venus a Neecha Banga Raja Yoga, still weak. So we chose to publish this month after May 9th when Mercury (the planet of communication and a magazine is communication) had at least a degree of arc. (we always publish on Muhurta). We say goodbye soon to the exalted transit of Venus in Pisces.

We also receive many letters to the editor asking questions about Jyotish or their charts. So, for those inquiring if Charlotte or I do readings (sessions, consultations) the answer is yes, we both have very busy full time consultation practices. Our contact information, along with the rest of our contributing staff’s is: http://www.jyotishstar.com/masthead_01.html You can also peruse through our archives and contact anyone we have interviewed, their contact information is usually with their bios.

For those of you asking questions about the uses of Jyotish, we are reprinting an article from a few years back the Systems and Methods of Vedic Astrology by Christina Collins which appeared in the very first issue of the ACVA News (20 to 23 years ago)

Next month we will present an interview with Vedic Astrologer Chandrashekhar Sharma, a very fascinating man with vast knowledge of Jyotish.

On a final note, it is with great sorrow that I mention the passing of the great Ayurvedic Practioner, Vidya Mishra for his memoriam please go to https://vaidyamishra.com/blog/knowledge/memoriam/

He will be missed
