Planetary Tips

May 1st to May 31st 2017

by Vachaspati Christina Collins

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart One

We begin May with the Sun exalted in Aries, conjunct a sandi retrograde Mercury who will go direct on May 3rd. Five planets are in retrograde motion (and Venus is no longer making it six planets). Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, and of course the always retrograde Rahu and Ketu the nodes of the Moon.

Mars resides in Taurus, supported by its dispositor, Venus exalted and happily now direct in motion. Moon in Gemini in the good nakshatra Punarvasu who is ruled by Jupiter who will transit exalted in the Navamsa 9th harmonic chart for the first sixteen days of May, then will retrograde back into Gemini in Navamsas, for the duration of the month. This is an important hint when evaluating the strength of a planet in transit, especially of the slow-moving planets. Check its status in the Navamsa chart. (and take note of that transit over your natal chart)

Rahu and Ketu continue their transit in Leo and Aquarius, yet still close to the degree of USA President Trumpís Lagna degree of 6í51 Leo. Although Rahu is considered somewhat good in the fire signs, as a shadow planet (eclipse energy) it can still affect the clarity of Leo rising, Moon or Sun and can give extra pitta (fiery, quick action) energy to an individual. And it can slow the person down as well, (Rahu acts like Saturn, who is slow, decisive and restrictive). When Rahu transits over the degree of the rising sign it can cause confusion and lack of clarity (for any lagna or moon). The trinal aspect of Ketu, (who acts like Mars) from the air sign Aquarius can express as explosions, eruptions, bombings etc. Iíve watched this over the years and many accidents, tornados, occur with malefics to the sign of Aquarius.

Saturn continues retrograde in Sagittarius receiving the trinal aspect of Rahu. When Saturn retrogrades back into Scorpio in June the situation will reverse and Saturn will aspect Rahu in Leo (a poorer scenario). The nodes will move to Cancer and Capricorn (the nodes are always retrograde) in August. So, until these two conditions change and are out of aspect with each other, we can expect dramatic experiences both macro and microcosmic. (Saturn is back transiting in Sagittarius and Rahu is transiting Cancer)

May 3 Mercury goes direct in Aries. It is still sandi or zero degrees, and will take a week or so to strengthen (when it reaches 1 degree).

May 4 and 5 Moon transits Leo along with Rahu. So with both Mercury and Moon, the planets of intellect and consciousness unstable we will be publishing the Jyotish Star a bit later in May.

May 6 and 7 Moon improves as it joins Jupiter in Virgo. It is good for things like planting a garden (while Moon is in Hasta) by hand, but because the dispositor Mercury is unstable and located in the 8th house from Virgo, it is not strong for making intellectual decisions. Still, you canít fault the beautiful combination of Moon and Jupiter in Gaja Keseri yoga (elephant/lion), the yoga of strength receiving the aspect of exalted Venus the planet of love and material gains from Pisces.

May 10 Full Libra Moon with exalted Sun and Moon will be in Vishaka (star of Jupiter and good for planting, and Jupiter and Venus both aspect earth sign Virgo. Plant things that need more watering when the Moon is Full.

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Two

May 13 the Sun moves into weak position (sandi) at 29í00 of Aries as it leaves exaltation. This will be a bit more of a challenging day, and the Moon in Scorpio (debilitation) in the 8th from the Sun will also be 29í29 when this occurs. Add to that, Mars from Taurus aspects the Moon (Chandra Mangala yoga) and it throws its 8th aspect on Saturn (though the orb is wide by degree). And of course, when the Moon resides in the 12th house from Saturn and Saturn is 2nd house from the Moon -- the Moon is in Sadi Sati. This is happening on a Saturday when people are likely travelling. If you must be on the road, be well rested, and avoid boating if possible.

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Three

May 14 the Sun moves to Taurus (joining Mars) which in Taurus can cause the earth to heat up (Taurus is an earth element sign, and Mars rules fire electricity and lightning) the saving grace is that Venus the dispositor (ruler of the sign Taurus) is transiting in the 11th house of gains in exaltation. So bottom line postpone ground travel if possible on this day.

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Four

May 15 Moon is in sade sati (the 7 Ĺ year transit of Saturn in the 12th house, 1st house and 2nd house from the Moon. Moon is also in a papa ketari yoga (hemmed between malefics Saturn and Ketu, and the Moon is the same degree as Rahu and Ketu. Normally the nakshatra Uttara Ashada (when in the earth sign of Capricorn is very good for planting and it is not yet too close to the Sun (Moon is still fairly strong when waning if it is at least 5 houses from the Sun (going towards new Moon, which is weak for planting because the Sun combusts the Moon.) You can plant things that donít need a lot of water, but corn and tomatoes should be planted nearer to a Full Moon. I like to plant in this Nakshatra, but this year the rest of the planets donít support it. Additionally, it is a Mars ruled Tuesday. If you are just getting started you can pierce the ground with shovels and rakes if you stay centered, focused and donít get distracted. (Mars rules things that pierce, like weapons or surgical instruments). As mentioned above Wednesday, May 10th is a good day for planting food, especially fruits and berries. (tomatoes are a fruit).

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Five

May 18 Moon and Ketu will be the same degree and the Sun will also be at 4 degrees. This happens in the evening, take care if driving late.

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Six

May 20 and 21 the Moon conjuncts exalted Venus opposite Jupiter. Mars has moved a good distance from the Sun so this is your ďdateĒ night for the month.

May 25 Mars becomes sandi at 29í00 Taurus Ė Mars is the planet of action and passion, yet this happens very close to a New Moon which additionally weakens the day.

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Seven

May 25 New Moon in Taurus. Mars is still weak, but at lease all three receive an aspect from Jupiter. Of course from the position of Taurus, Jupiter, a natural benefic is a functional Malefic as rulers of house 8 (dustana) and 11 (upachaya) who is 6th from the 6th.

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Eight

May 26 Mars moves to Gemini in very close aspect to Saturn. When they are in mutual aspect (they each aspect the other by opposition which can be very challenging). The position of Mars now in Gemini (air sign) aspecting two earth signs (Virgo by 4th aspect and Capricorn by 8th aspect, as well as lord of the 8th (Saturn) position from Gemini Ė adding the fact that both nodes aspect the air sign Aquarius and Ketu aspects all three air signs. This causes fires fueled by wind. This is a day to stay grounded if possible and not to fly. (additionally Rahu resides in the 4th house of vehicles from the Sun and Moon. With moon still compromised by the closeness of Sun.

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart None

May 29 Moon will be in its own sign of Cancer in lovely nakshatra Pushya (a handful of flowers), however the catch is that it is the same degree as Rahu and Ketu and hemmed in by Malefic Mars and Rahu.

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Ten

May 29 We near the end of the exalted Venus in Pisces as it hits the last degree of Revati and the end of the Zodiac, for another year

. May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Eleven

May 30 the partyís over. Venus moves into Aries (in its fall or opposite position from its own sign of Libra.

May 2017 Planetary Tips Chart Twelve

May 31 Mars is the same degree as Rahu and Ketu, Venus the dispositor of the Sun is still transiting sandi and 12th from the sun (sandi is zero or 29 degrees). Please note, I say more about the most difficult days. If I donít make a note for a particular day, it is generally better than the days I make notes for. Still, the planets are challenging (Next month, in June Saturn will retrograde back into Scorpio.
