The Jyotish Star February 2012

Editorial by Vachaspati Christina Collins

We send everyone love this month with a Valentines Day that will occur with a nice exalted Venus in the sky! And, respect as we observe vegetarian fasting (no meat) on the eve of Maha Shivaratri on the 20th.

Our premier Vedic Star of the Month is world famous Vedic scholar and Astrologer Dr. Andrew Foss, who co-founded BAVA (British Association for Vedic Astrology) in London, and currently serves as the President of BAVA. Dr. Foss, in addition to being a world known Vedic Astrologer or Jyotishi, is equally known for his development of Shri Jyoti Star software which is used not only by students of Jyotish, but by many, if not most, of the professional astrologers that you see listed as the Jyotish Star of the Month, in past issues in our archives! He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, and currently resides with his family, in Virginia. We feel lucky to have his interview, and
further pleased to publish his interesting article on the Jaimini system of Jyotish.

To focus a little on love and our connections with each other, we have a piece on relationships and how planets operate as they connect us to each other. Relationships - What Connects Us

Also, check out Planetary Tips, and remember to try not to travel when the sun is changing signs

I would like to mention again the wonderful piece written by Bill Levacy last year around this time especially as we have hundreds of new readers, who may have missed it. Cupid and Kama: Love in the West and the East by William R. Levacy http://www.jyotishstar.com/cupid-and-kama-feb-2011.html

On a more somber note we want to let you know that we have lost a prominent member of our Vedic community. Dr. David Simon, MD and Ayurvedic Doctor passed away the morning of January 31st. Many of us knew David who worked in Ayurvedic medicine with Dr. Deepak Chopra for the last 20 years and he will definitely be missed and appreciated for decades to come. When I asked the person who called me with this news that David had moved on - -How will you remember him best? She answered, beyond his greatness, and how he raised the awareness of others, he was a GREAT father! What a wonderful thing! For further information:

Let this time, with all of the political debates, cruise ships sinking, personal losses and conflicts in the world -- be a time where we focus our thoughts and hearts on love -- to love and honor our friends, families, and ourselves! If this Valentines Day does not produce flowers and sweets from a loved one, please go out and give some flowers to yourself lift yourself up! And, know we appreciate each and every one of you, and that we send you love from the Jyotish Star!
