The U.S. Presidential Election Prediction |
| By David Goldstein, Ph.D. For: November 6, 2012, Washington, DC, 7:00 A.M. EST Let me begin by stating that this is undoubtedly one of the most difficult predictions to make due to the many strengths found in both presidential candidates charts, that of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Up until recently, I was fairly certain that I could not make this prediction, since from an astrological perspective, both individuals are running very strong and powerful planetary cycles (mahadasha and bhukti cycles) and the transits are equally influential for both on that particular election date. I could make a case for either candidate to win; that is how close these charts appear for winning this 2012 presidential election. I was prepared to report that I am unable to predict this particular election outcome. Its interesting that all of the media polls lately show this exact same situation, that both candidates appear to be even. No one can predict this particular race with certainty. But, then, I saw something that hit me pretty strongly and allowed me to make a hesitant prediction on the outcome of this election. Therefore, I had to painstakingly examine minute, microscopic, sub-atomic particle astrological differences between their two charts---- a procedure that is quite suspect to minute differences in birth time, and is easily open to error. As we know, birth times are at best, an estimate, and for these famous individuals, we never really know if we have accurate birth times. So, that is another issue worthy of consideration. Probably, if I wanted to avoid controversy, Id stay away from this exercise altogether. But, since I have already opened this can of worms, here we go The following is my purely astrological (NOT political) analysis of the two candidates charts and what I believe will be the outcome of this election. This is my astrological opinion, and Im not interested in debating this issue. So, kindly, dont bother sending emails to discuss it, as they will be deleted and not read. The Main Charts & Factors for Consideration:
1. Both individuals are running Vimshottari planetary cycles that are strong for being elected president. Obama is running the powerful Saturn/Saturn/Saturn/Moon. Note that his Saturn is in the prominent 1st house, forming a strong mahaparusha Shasi yoga. His Moon is exalted in Rohini in the fortunate 5th house. This almost guarantees a successful outcome and getting reelected. However, Mitt Romney is running the powerful Sun/Mercury/Rahu/Saturn. Note that his Sun & Mercury form a powerful Raja yoga in the 10th house of career and the presidency. Rahu is in his 1st house, giving the possibility of fame and recognition and Saturn is strong in the 3rd (upachaya) house & 9th from his Moon. Saturn is also the yogakaraka planet for Taurus rising. So, this planetary cycle gives an equally strong possibility for becoming the president at this time in his life. 2. Examination of Dasamsa D-10 varga (career) dasha/bhukti planets: Obamas Saturn is in the 5th house of the D-10 varga, but the Moon is in the 12th and in a 6/8 relationship with Saturn. This configuration indicates a change in his career, for better or worse. Some might view leaving the presidency as offering improvements to his life and career achievements. For Romney, Sun is in the fortunate 9th house of the D-10 varga, and Mercury is in the 6th house, 10th from the Sun, showing prominence and rise in the career during this period. This is one of the strengths tipping the outcome in Romneys favor for winning this election. 3. Tara Bala (relationship of the individuals Moon to the transiting Moon on that date): The consideration of tara bala is very important in the case of muhurta charts, as many know. For both individuals the tara bala begins unfavorably and then ends favorably, since the lunar nakshatra changes from Pushya to Ashlesha on that day, precisely at 11:24 A.M. EST. So, the results might start shifting after that nakshatra change. However, this factor is even for both of them, so it does not help in making a prediction in this case. 4. Transiting Planets on 11/6/2012: On this election day, we have a wild card situation with Mercury, which turns retrograde during that same day on November 6th. Note that Romney has natal Mercury retrograde and he is in the Mercury bhukti cycle. When Mercury turns retrograde, the mind works differently. This can influence perceptions and the logic people use to make a determination in their voting. Things can go opposite what might have been expected during Mercury direct periods. One of the effects of Mercury retrograde will be confusion, and communication and technical problems influencing this election. There are likely to be mix-ups, delays, break downs, voting problems with machines and all sorts of hidden problems as well. Mercury will be in Scorpio with Mars and Rahu, and hence quite afflicted. Mercury is important for all types of communications, including electronic, written and verbal. So, Mercury is critical for an event such as an election. Expect a lot of issues, and possibly a delay in receiving the results. This election may be too close to call and require a few extra days to recount votes. There may be challenges to the results and controversy surrounding the entire voting process. This election process will be ugly at best. Transiting Mercury in Anuradha (Scorpio) will now be moving back toward Romneys Moon, also in Anuradha (and his Bhukti lord). Im not sure if this enhances anything, but it does bring an intense connection with the days transit and his Moon/Jupiter located there. The Moon on this day is also conjunct with Romneys Saturn. Recall, Saturn is Romneys 10th ruler (career), and Saturn is the dispositing planet of his Sun & Mercury (current dasha/bhukti cycle planets in force). Moreover, Saturn is his 4th level antaradasha planet in force at this time. This is more significant factor tipping the results toward Romneys favor also. For Obama, the transiting Moon is going through his 7th house of the opponent, but also makes him more prominent as well (Moon aspects the 1st house from the 7th and is transiting on an angle in his chart). The transiting Moon also joins with his natal Mercury and Sun, respectively by degree. The issue here is that the Sun rules the 8th house (transition, endings). Mercury rules his 9th house, which is a benefic planet for his Capricorn rising sign. However, the Moon moves rapidly and by the end of the day, will have transited to conjunct with Obamas Sun. One may make the case that the Sun is the karaka for the career and hence this transit might boost that opportunity a bit. Also, exalted Saturn is transiting Obamas 10th house of career, an excellent and powerful indicator for gains and success in this domain. 5. The U.S. Chart in relation to Obama and Romney: So far, both individuals are virtually tied in terms of strengths for winning the election. It is difficult to discern from the previous factors which person would win, as there are only subtle differences. Which factor holds the most weight to tip this prediction in one direction or the other? Bringing in the influence of the U.S. chart, the scale begins to tip in one direction. The technique Im using involves planetary synastry between the chart of the candidate and the U.S. chart itself, along with the planetary cycles in force for both candidates. This technique is not in any book I know of, but it is a logical approach. From this vantage point, notice that Romney has his mid-heaven (important point for the career) at approximately 7 degrees Aquarius and the U.S. chart has the Moon at 7 degrees Aquarius, a perfect conjunction. Romneys 10th lord Saturn is conjunct the U.S. 10th lord Mercury, in the sign of Cancer which is where the transiting Moon will be on this day of the election. For Obama, the transiting Moon will be conjunct with his Mercury and Sun in Cancer, as mentioned previously. However, Mercury and Sun do not rule his 10th house of career. Obamas mid-heaven is at 24 degrees Libra. The debilitated Sun will transit at 21 degrees that day and exalted Saturn will transit through his 10th house at 10 degrees. Recall, when Obama won the election in November 2008, he was running Jupiter/Moon/Mercury/Saturn. His popular exalted Moon in Taurus is the main reason why I had correctly predicted that would get him elected in the first place. Obamas natal Mercury is conjunct with the U.S. Mercury and his natal Saturn is powerful in a Shashi yoga. For this 2012 election, his Saturn is in full force and his Moon is exalted. But, his Saturn is not making any direct connections with the U.S. chart, nor is his natal Moon. The major planetary cycle of the U.S. is currently, Mars/Mercury. Mars is in Gemini, a sign that invokes duality, indecisiveness, and change. Geminis influence to the country brings the desire to change sides, have a new experience and remain uncommitted. During the last Mars cycle in the late 1800s, the presidency changed from Republican to Democrat, which was unusual for that time in history. The common denominator from that election to the present situation is change from one side to the other. The U.S. Mercury is in the 8th house, which governs transformation and brings up lots of controversy, challenges and shifts for the country. Now for the deciding factor: recall that Obama is currently in the Saturn/Saturn/Saturn/Moon period on November 6th. Recall that Romney is in the Sun/Mercury/Rahu/Saturn period on November 6th. The U.S. will be in the Mars/Mercury/Rahu/Saturn cycle on that exact day. Which candidates planetary cycle matches that of the U.S. chart more closely? The answer is Mitt Romney, with three exact planetary cycle matches to the U.S. chart. This is the main factor, in my opinion that tilts the outcome in Romneys direction. This is still a very, very close call and my analysis might actually be wrong. But, this is the closest approximation I could make considering that all of the astrological factors are extremely close. Similarly, the result of this election is quite likely to be extremely close and may require a recount for this reason. Final Prediction: My tenuous prediction based on the above analysis is that Mitt Romney will win this 2012 election.
