Spiritual Insights

January 2015 by Joni Patry

The New Year is the time that we all look forward to a new beginning. This year will have a very different feel because old ways of thinking will finally end. This will set the tone for many years to come. It is the year of a true Awakening. There is a search for what is meaningful and real. Finding our sense of what is real and purposeful in our lives is what gives life meaning. When we connect to our essence of our true inner self we feel whole and complete. But when we connect to the outside sources for this sense of completion we will never feel complete. As we keep searching outside ourselves we become more disillusioned and lost. The world becomes a very insecure place.

We are all seeking this sense of fulfillment but dont understand how. But the only way out is within. My words that inspire our inner awakening are finally being heard now. The younger generations are seeking that which is eternal and not superficial.

The aspect that truly flavors this year astrologically is the Uranus conjunct Ketu. This conjunction is exact January, which gives the tone of what is come in 2015. Uranus symbolizes new beginnings, awakening, and the future while Ketu represents the inner worlds and our spirituality. On the negative side it will inspire the fanatical that will use extreme measures to enforce their beliefs. Uranus rules radical and rebellious attitudes and Ketu associated with Mars pertains to the inner insatiable burning desires to fill an empty incomplete feeling.

Many do not understand what this emptiness is about and search outside themselves to fill this desire through negative sources, which bring a deep sense of disillusionment. This behavior can manifest radical behavior and fear. The extremes of this aspect will manifest during the eclipses since Uranus with Ketu will be conjoined the solar and lunar eclipses.

Now is the time that humanity is seeking and yearning for something beyond this world. Traditional old beliefs are too rule abiding and judgmental. People are seeking truth beyond all the rules that breed hate and injustice and especially hypocritical behaviors. How can religion preach love and final salvation but condemn race, gays, and especially those of different beliefs or culture. The world is awakening to a new way of belief. This is a time of transformation of consciousness. This will threaten the conservative ways of thinking. Transformational times of growth are times of conflict and have growing pains. Remember the turbulent 1960s created a better world. Freedom always comes with a price.

The new generations will bring forth a spiritual movement. This is a movement that acknowledges our connection to the Divine force or spirit within.

Uranus and Ketu conjoin every 16 years. This conjunction and what it indicates depends on the sign it occurs. The last time Uranus conjoined Ketu in the sign of Pisces was 1847. Pisces is the sign that connects us to other worlds and spirituality. During this time there was a great spirituality movement. This inspirational conjunction is evident in the birth charts of visionaries and inventors born that year, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and spiritual leader Annie Besant. During this time Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson inspired the spiritual movement through the meaning of reality and nature.

Article on Spiritualism 1847

Spiritualism as a religious movement was a varied set of beliefs and practices related to the conviction that the living and the dead could be in meaningful communication.

One event that precipitated "Modern Spiritualism," as it was called, was the 1847 publication of The Principles of Nature, composed by Andrew Jackson Davis, a young entranced seer from Poughkeepsie, New York. He claimed the spirit of Emanuel Swedenborg had dictated the book, an airy speculation on the evolution of the cosmos, culture and religion. In 1848 three young sisters, Margaret, Kate, and Leah Fox, generated public excitement with their claim to have contacted spirits of the dead through telegraphic rapping in their home near Rochester. From the Fox sisters' experience came the pattern for the sance, or spirit circle. Soon many "mediums," especially sensitive to "impressions" from spirits, guided hopeful participants.

Spiritualism attracted people from every religious background. Many Universalists and Unitarians, especially, were drawn by the hope for communion with the spirits of the dead.

A disproportionate number of Universalists actively helped to shape the movement from its beginnings.

While the spiritualist movement comforted the recently bereaved, it also made spiritual matters the subject of empirical investigation. Spiritualism's rationalist, perfectionist and individualistic assumptions linked people in the movement with the liberal, progressive, even radical reform movements of the timeabolition, woman's rights, health reform, labor reform and communal experiments. Spiritualism inspired the activism of many leaders of these movements.

Universalist involvement in spiritualism needs to be seen as one feature of the rationalist challenge to belief in Biblical revelation and to the common belief in miracles as suspensions of natural law. Spiritualism was taken as a practical demonstration that the workings of cause and effect extended to heaven and the afterlife.

The difference between the spiritualist movement of 1847, and now is that they looked at the spirit as outside ourselves. They connected to spirits that have passed or angels outside ourselves. But now is the time to connect to the spirit inside ourselves. This spirit is our true connection to the Divine, this is our spiritual being that is connected to all that is. Call it Higher Power, Higher Self, Divine connection, or God. The fact is this is nothing new and is the bases of religion. We are a part of God. As in the Bible it says the Kingdom of God is within You. From the Katha Upanishad Ancient Hindu Scripture: The self-existent Lord pierced the senses to turn outward. Thus we look to the world outside and see not the Self within us. A sage withdrew his senses from the world of change and, seeking immortality, looked within and beheld the deathless self.

The true spiritual movement to come out of this pivotal year 2015, is the beginning of our connection to our own inner guidance. You may call this intuition or psychic knowing. It is something we all possess and now is the time we must learn to reconnect to this knowing. It is that which we are all searching. This true connection will end the feeling of emptiness and give a feeling of wholeness and completeness. When you feel the connection to the Divine you feel security, love and happiness, which breeds a world full of love and happiness. No more fear and destruction. Interestingly it could be called our conscience, which is associated with the word consciousness. This is a new movement of
awareness or consciousness. It is time to eradicate ignorance. What a great new year that is evolving in our lifetime.

The question is, is this source of inspiration from an outside source of guidance? The realization is that this source is who we are, we are a part of the Divine and we are all one. With this knowing there will be trends and movements that help us to be more aware and tap into our own resources within ourselves. This is our awakening and the beginning of a new awareness. We are all a part of this new spirituality movement, Happy New Year!
