Elizabeth Taylor

1932 - 2011

Jyotish Star January 2012

Goodbye to the Greats!

We said goodbye to many greats in 2011. Nickolas Ashford ( (May 4, 1941, Fairfield, South Carolina) August 22, 2011) singer/entertainer, songwriter and recording artist is someone I will especially miss.

We wrote about Steve Jobs in a former issue, and now, we take a last look at the chart of screen icon Elizabeth Taylor.

Elizabeth Taylor

Feb 27th 1932 Mar 23rd 2011

Elizabeth Taylor, born February 27th, 1932 was intensely Scorpio rising, (Scorpio is known for having intense eyes) and Libra rising from the Moon. Her birth time, as she gave it to Lois Rodden of AstroDatabank was 2:15am. The Solar Fire software databank lists 2:00 am.

The data given to me in the past when I lived in California, was between 1:00 and 2:00 am. I rectified her chart at the time to 1:08:56. This time shows a Navamsa that more reflects her life, with many husbands and divorce or death in those unions.

With her Scorpio rising, best friend Jupiter, ruler of house 2 and 5 is exalted in Cancer in the 9th. This is known as one of the Lakshmi yogas (when the ruler of a dhana (wealth) house (houses 2, 5 and 9) connects to another dhana house. Also, the ruler of the lagna, Mars, is posited in house 4, and the ruler of house 4 (Saturn, in own sign of Capricorn) aspects by opposition, Jupiter, the ruler of house 2, and house 5 which is a major raja yoga. (When the ruler of an angle and a trine house both aspect each other, or connect in some way it forms a raja yoga. Raja means King, yoga means union). If the ascendant ruler is involved this yoga increases in power. The ruler of the 2nd house, Jupiter, and its exaltation explains her great beauty. Along with the fact, that Venus, the other great benefic ruling wealth and beauty is also exalted.

When Jupiter and Venus connect in some way it brings with it an artistic nature, and of course Elizabeth Taylor was a famous presence as an actor but she also made much of her vast fortune in real estate (the yoga mentioned above) and as an art collector. The fact that her Jupiter and Venus were both exalted, both in trines, (the 5th and 9th) increases this good fortune.

It is of note, that her rasi exalted Jupiter in Cancer in the 9th house of dharma, aspects her exalted Venus in the 5th house of creativity. Jupiter, ruler of the 2nd house (face) and 5th house (purva poonya or past credit) created a career based upon both talent and beauty. For these yogas to manifest in greatness, the lagna and/or lagna lord or ruler of the rising sign must somehow be connecting to the yoga. (And the planets forming a yoga must operate in the lifetime) the Vimshottari dasa runs for 120 years, and most people, in the current age of Kali Yuga dont live that long to enable them to experience all of the dasas, or time periods..

Elizabeth Taylors Moon at birth was in Vishakha Nakshatra a star of Jupiter (Vishakha natives are very ambitions, aim their wagons to a high star hoping for success, and happy when they achieve it! If their ambition is toward career goals, they can focus on their career to the detriment of other aspects of their life.) This means, of course, that she was born in the Jupiter Dasa and that her raja yogas were activated at birth! Most of you reading this know that she became famous in childhood as a movie star in 1944 in the movie National Velvet. Not her debut effort, (which was 1942), but this film gave her fame. So let us examine her Jupiter.

  • Jupiter dasa at birth
  • Jupiter is exalted in Cancer
  • Jupiter is in the 9th house of dharma (destiny)
  • Jupiter is in the 10th house of occupation from the Moon

    • Note, the 1st house is self, the 2nd house is how the Self occupies itself with getting food, sustenance and self-earned wealth.
    • Therefore the 9th house (the destiny of the self) and the 10th house (is the expression of the destiny as 2nd house from the 9th)
    • The fact that Jupiter is in the 9th, and aspecting the 1st and 5th and that Jupiter from the Chandra lagna is exalted in the 10th -- in synthesis gives a form of dharma/karma yoga. (When 9th and 10th rulers are connected in some way.)
    • She also had dharma/karma raja yoga from the Moon or Chandra Lagna. Ruler of the 9th, Mercury, and ruler of the 10th, Moon. Moon is in the first (as with all Chandra Lagnas), and Mercury is in the 5th. Or, said another way, the ruler of the 9th is in the 4th and the ruler of the 10th is in the 1st. (a ruler of a trine in an angle, and the ruler of an angle in a trine)

  • Jupiter is in Hamsa yoga from the Moon Chart (The highest of the 5 Maha Purusha yogas, Hamsa Yoga, the yoga of discrimination, the spiritual swan who when given milk mixed with water could draw out the milk and leave the water behind). It occurs when Jupiter is in its own sign or exalted, in an angle from the Moon. It can only occur in years when Jupiter is in Cancer, Sagittarius, or Pisces. Three years in every twelve. (It takes Jupiter 12 years to circle the zodiac).
Now we examine the Chandra Lagan or Moon rising sign. From here we see the trials and tribulations of her life. First of all, in synthesis, the Moon, ruler of the 9th is in the 12th (reclusive house of ashrams and hospitals) Jupiter dasa, in play in childhood, with Jupiter in Cancer, the sign who is ruled by the Moon, and then the Moon resides in the 12th.

She injured herself, breaking her back when acting in the film National Velvet. This injury caused her chronic pain for the rest of her life. (over her life she broke her back 5 times, and was born with scoliosis) She filmed National Velvet in 1944 (and she was in Jupiter/Rahu in 1944).

Note, that from the Moon, the 6th house (of illness and accidents) holds not only the ruler of Libra rising, Venus, (even though exalted, which may be why she didnt end up in a wheel chair for life!), but also Rahu. The 6th house is Pisces which of course is ruled by Jupiter, the dasa and Bhukti in operation at the time. (Jupiter/Rahu). Jupiter also rules Sagittarius (half horse half human) the 3rd house from the Moon (which is 8th from the 8th). So this Jupiter time period produced an accident causing chronic disease for her life. The film National Velvet was released on December 14th of 1944. She was in Jupiter/Rahu/Venus. She injured her back during filming in Jupiter/Rahu/Ketu which ran from July through September of 1944. She reinjured her back in August of 1999 when she was in Venus/Jupiter/Venus. (same 6th house, ruled by Jupiter, holding Venus).

Now lets examine using the rectified time, her Navamsa which has Leo rising, rather than Sagittarius rising which is closer to the 2am stated time. The Leo rising Navamsa has many planets Mercury, Sun, Venus, Ketu and Uranus in the 7th house of marriage, with Jupiter, the karaka (significating planet) in the 6th house making an enemy energy of Jupiter, Jupiter in Capricorn is the debilitation location, however as her Jupiter is retrograde, and in an angle from the Navamsa Aries Moon, it is neecha banga or cancelled. Still, it is Jupiter residing in Capricorn, and Jupiter posited in house 6.

Also note that the main injuries happened in a sub period of Rahu, from falling off of a horse. Rahu is weak (sandi), is in the ascendant and aspects by trine and opposition, the 5th house (of sports), Mars (in the 5th), the Moon (in the 9th) the ruler of the Moon, Mars, (so Rahu aspects both ascendants, and the rulers of both ascendants, Leo and Aries ruled by Mars and the Sun) Sun, Mercury, Venus, Ketu by opposition in air sign Aquarius. She went flying through the air, falling from a horse. The Navamsa 7th house, the fact that the nodes are in the 1/7 axis, (self and partner), and that Rahu aspects every planet except Jupiter and Saturn (along with a 6th house Venus in the Rasi and a 6th house Jupiter in the Navamsa) explains the 8 marriages. Even though Rahu does not directly aspect these two, the influence still is present. Saturn is in the sign of Jupiter (Pisces), Saturn aspects Jupiter by 3rd, they are in parivartna (exchanging houses) and Saturn rules the 7th. Always radiant in public, her navamsa shows the sorrow side.

According to the Wikipedia quote below she suffered for much of her life from ill health. Hysterectomy is from Scorpio rising, hips replaced, Sag is a maraka house and rules the hips, lungs, Gemini, who rules lungs is the 8th house from Scorpio and so forth.

At 5'4", Taylor constantly gained and lost significant amounts of weight, reaching both 119 pounds and 180 pounds in the 1980s. She smoked cigarettes into her mid-fifties, and feared she had lung cancer in October 1975 after an X-ray showed spots on her lungs, but was later found not to have the disease. Taylor broke her back five times, had both her hips replaced, had a hysterectomy, suffered from dysentery and phlebitis, punctured her esophagus, survived a benign brain tumor operation in 1997 and skin cancer, and faced life-threatening bouts with pneumonia twice, one in 1961 requiring an emergency tracheotomy. In 1983 she admitted to having been addicted to sleeping pills and painkillers for 35 years. Taylor was treated for alcoholism and prescription drug addiction at the Betty Ford Clinic for seven weeks from December 1983 to January 1984, and again from the autumn of 1988 until early 1989.

We said good bye on March 23rd, 2011 at 1:28 am where she died peacefully at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. (by the way, she converted to Judaism years ago.)

Elizabeth Taylor died at the age of 79 from heart disease congestive heart failure, which was first diagnosed in 2004. The Moon was in Vishakha, the moon of her birth, just barely after her lunar return. The Ascendant, Scorpio, the lagna of her birth. Note that Ketu transited her 8th house (of death) at 3°26 squaring her nodes at 3°22. She had a nice exit with the spiritual planets Saturn and Jupiter in close degree opposition 6/12 axis from her natal Moon. She was in the dasa of SU/SA/RA/SA/ME the prana level (5th) was Mercury, the ruler of the 8th. The Saturn Bhukti activated her 3rd house Saturn, who aspects her Moon in the 12th house of hospitals, and of course, she was in sadi sati of her Libra Moon, and Saturn from Virgo aspected her Scorpio Lagna, and transited 8th from her Lagna ruler Mars (in Aquarius). Saturn by transit in Virgo, aspected both of her natal nodes, transited over her natal Ketu, and in angles from the transiting nodes as well. She lived a life full of magic and stricken by suffering, and I miss her.
