The Sun Shines in Leo

By Vachaspati Christina Collins

Our new series on the Sign the Sidereal Sun transits on the first of the month, and how the slow moving Jyotish planets (Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu) will generally affect the months sign (for people with Leo Rising, Moon, or Sun lagnas)

LEO This months article is for YOU!

The chart example above is set up with the Lagna, Moon and Sun all in Leo to give a visual aid for you when you read the article.

Leo: Exalted Jupiter aspects the 12th by position, the 4th house by trine, the 6th house by opposition the 8th house by trine. (Houses, 12, 4, 6 and 8) Houses, 6, 8 and 12 are the dustanas. There exists a dual nature to each house, both positive and negative. House six is most positive of the three dustanas because it is an Upachaya as well as a Dustana

Because Upachayas improve over time, when we are young the 6th house will manifest in childhood illnesses, accidents, enemies however as we grow, mature and age the 6th house though the house of litigation (12th from the 7th, the house of contracts), it is the house of how we serve our dharma (the 6th is 10th (occupation, career) from the 9th or you could say the career produced or expressed from the dharma or life purpose). So as we age, the 6th house becomes more positive, especially if we are living a life of correct action in accordance with our life purpose.

Jupiter is a mixed effect for Leo Lagna. While it is lord of the 5th house, Sagittarius, Jupiter is also Lord of the challenging 8th house. The Upside of the 8th house expresses as the house of transcendence, of going beyond the daily grind of the relative by going within the self and experiencing meditation. It is also, as the house of death or loss of life, the house of legacy both the wealth gained from others and the wealth gained by legacy (most often from the Father, as the 8th is 12th from the 9th) this thinking of looking to the house position relative to other houses is called derived houses.

Saturn throws its 10th aspect from exaltation in Libra on the 12th house as well. Making the 12th house the major house in play for Leos this year. So Jupiter when transiting exalted in the 12th house Dustana, certainly this year with the additional aspect of Ketu in the 8th aspecting by trine the 12th should be important for spiritual study and focus, even spending time in retreat depending upon the rest of the natal chart and the dasa time periods in play.

Leo Transit Key:

Saturn /Jupitermutually aspect house 12House in Play

Saturnaspects houses 3, 5, 9, 12
Jupiter aspects houses 5, 6, 8 12
Ketu in Piscesaspects Houses 2, 4 and 12
Rahu in Virgoaspects Houses 2, 6 and 10

Health should be attended to, with a good physical checkup and earnings from career will expand. Because Rahu and Ketu transit in the 2/8 axis, one of the most difficult to have a birth, strong attention should be paid on focusing on self-earned wealth, and doing due diligence at work to make sure that negligence to financial responsibilities does not cause a problem. For some there could be a change in job, career, or the way money is earned. This may not necessarily be negative. Keep in mind that for Leos Jupiter rules the fifth and is aspecting the 4th by position. So a change in home (4th house) or fixed assets could come as an improvement. Important to check the natal nodes, their position, and their rulers, the karmic control planet and how they too are in current play. The 4th is also the house of education

For some Leos with the nodes aspecting the 2nd there will be a tendency to put incorrect foods or substances (such as smoke) into the mouth because of the aspect of the shadow upagraha planet Rahu transiting the 2nd house. This transit of Rahu in Virgo depending upon the strength of the natal Mercury and its situation (position, sign house, strength etc.) could also bring dental disease. So get your dental work done now if you havent already because it could just get worse under this transit. The right eye could also weaken, so getting an eye exam is also a good idea.

Having said that, it is also true that Rahu is good for education, and with Jupiter also aspecting the 4th, taking time for study, especially spiritual study will be of benefit (because the mutual aspect of exalted Jupiter and exalted Saturn jointly aspect house 12.) Rahu in the 2nd house by transit can cause block to study, just as a natal moon in the 2nd house is a boon and indicates a person who will always be studying things. So, dont put too much pressure on yourself our dear Leos who are out there wanting to lead and shine and hold court!!! This is an inward year for you. (Well, that is until November when the focus changings from house 12 to houses 4 and 6 where some Leos will increase their service to the dharma as educators. (November moves to Scorpio in November and then two houses will be in play. Scorpio and Capricorn).

We must remind everyone that we are ONLY talking about the nodes and Jupiter and Saturn, the slower moving transits, and that every chart is like a snowflake. Unique and different. And over very long periods of time. For example our current transit of Ketu in Pisces, Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn in Libra occurred hundreds of years ago,

and will occur next in over 500 years!

So, please dont think these four transiting placements is your full picture! Please consult your astrology for the full explanation of your current transits!

And, Happy Birthday to our Leo Sun signs!
