March 1st to March 31st 2016 |
| by Vachaspati Christina Collins We begin the month with the Sun in Rahu�s Star Satabisha, quickly approaching exact conjunction with Ketu in Purva Bhadrapada, the star of Jupiter. Moon in Scorpio in Anurada hemmed between Saturn and Mars in papa ketari yoga, hemmed between Mars and Saturn. Venus and Mercury continue in Capricorn, with Mercury is sandi at 29 degrees. Jupiter continues in Purva Phalguni, the Venus star in Leo, now in Retrograde motion moving back towards Virgo. On May 10th Jupiter will resume direct motion and will move closer and closer to Rahu until they align once again in exact conjunction on June 20th. Saturn continues its aspect to Leo, also approaching the exact degree of Jupiter. Of course it takes Jupiter a year to transit a sign, and Saturn 2 and � years to do the same, but Saturn�s retrograde motion will bring an exact aspect in May. Mars has returned home after its two-year transit around the sun, only to find Saturn, his great enemy camped out for two and a half years in Mars� home, own sign of Scorpio. Because Mars transits at the top of its corkscrew, funnel like orbit, he will be far from earth and months in the sign � until September 18th. (when Mars is at the bottom of its orbit, closest to the earth, Mars moves about a degree a day staying in a sign for about a month). This is interesting to note, because in a natal chart Mars will act differently for two different people, even when in the same sign, if it was closer to earth than farther away. I have seen this in medical astrology, when Mars is distant, chronic illness can present, and when closer to the earth events are more dramatic, yet quickly over, and the person tends to be more accident prone. Of course the big news is the eclipses of March. The total solar eclipse on March 8/9 (depending upon where you live) will be seen in parts of Asia and Indonesia. A couple of weeks later on the 23rd we will experience the lunar eclipse. A solar eclipse lasts about a minute, while lunar eclipse are much longer. 2016 present as a difficult year in general with a Rahu, Ketu and Saturn the three great malefics aspecting the greatest benefic Jupiter, who though at home as a guest in his friend, the Sun�s home of Leo, has to share the house with the influence of Rahu, the head of the snake who has and rules poison, Ketu the unpredictable snake who strikes quickly without remorse and Saturn, lorded by Rama the god of death. Add to this the fact that Saturn becomes more powerful when retrograde (on the 26th) we will see dramas (Leo) and possibly death of stars and leaders, of people who are before the public in some way. Additionally, the mutual aspect of Mars and Saturn on Capricorn, an earth sign will increase earthquakes and natural disasters. It was one situation last month when Mars from Libra, and Saturn from Scorpio both aspected Capricorn by Mars 4th aspect, and Saturn�s 3rd, while Mars also aspected the earth sign of Taurus by its 8th that the bigger, more frequent earthquakes began. Now Saturn is closer to Mars, who is very powerful in its own sign and slower in its orbit, like Saturn who is always slow and they continue to aspect earth signs. Saturn�s 3rd to Capricorn and 7th to Taurus and Mars 7th direct toward Taurus. So we have this month, Jupiter with Rahu, Saturn with Mars and Ketu with the Sun, with all major malefics aspecting the sign Leo. We should see some explosions or volcanic activity on the increase. It is not a time of peace. March 1 Mercury is sandi at 29°05 Capricorn March 2 Mercury moves to Capricorn, joining the Sun and Ketu. Not a great combination, however Mercury conjunct Ketu increases intuition as it connects Ketu to the other side. March 3 Moon moves away from the two malefics Mars and Saturn and their internal planetary war and into Sag, receiving the aspect of Jupiter to its own house. Also this creates a shubha ketari yoga where benefic Venus is hemmed by benefics Moon in Sag, Venus in Capricorn and Mercury in Aquarius. This yoga will continue for about 6 days, ending when Moon moves past Venus into Capricorn. For a day or so Moon will be hemmed between benefics Venus and Mercury. March 7 Venus moves to Capricorn to join Sun, Moon, Ketu, Mercury and if you are counting, Neptune. This stellium of 5 planets will be in kendras from each other (or squaring each other in western lingo) and when it begins the lagna is Taurus, so every planet will be angular. So even though the total eclipse of the Sun is a day away, the intensity will be felt a day earlier. Think of a wonderful day a combination of planets for marriage and happiness. . .this is the opposite March 8 Total eclipse of the Sun over Indonesia and Asia in Aquarius � hmmm don�t think flying is a good idea. A solar eclipse is when the Moon passes directly between earth and the sun. this causes a shadow to fall on the earth. If you are in the path you will see the eclipse. This one will be seen in Indonesia/Asia. In 2017 we will have a solar eclipse fall on the eastern United States. This is a new moon, super moon eclipse (moon is very close to earth) and at the same time, Jupiter heads towards earth and is close to the earth while in opposition to the Sun. With a good telescope you will be able to see Jupiter about the size that the moon looks to the naked eye. Where clear Jupiter can be seen with the naked eye. DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN WITHOUT PROPER GEAR � IT CAN BLIND YOU To adjust for your time zone Atlantic Standard Time (AST) = UT - 4 hours Eastern Standard Time (EST) = UT - 5 hours Central Standard Time (CST) = UT - 6 hours Mountain Standard Time (MST) = UT - 7 hours March 13 The sun turns sandi at 29�00 (not good for flying or driving) and a little later the moon moves to exaltation and both Mars and Saturn aspect the exalted Moon in Taurus by opposition at about 8:40pm March 14 Sun changes signs to Pisces in Purva Bhadrapada, the star of Jupiter. Jupiter transits in the 6th from the Sun, in Leo conjuct Rahu and aspected by Saturn. Be extremely careful with your lower back and avoid yoga postures that stress the lumbar spine. Gemini�s will be stimulated to go fast with Mars aspecting their lagna, and this is the 4th house of vehicles for Pisces. Both signs are under undue stress at this time. March 18 Mercury is sandi at 29°00 Aquarius (thinking could be grandiose and illogical. Do not sign legal documents this day. March 19 Mercury moves to Pisces, its sign of debilitation. Jupiter the ruler of Pisces is under duress and this brings the 6/8 (enemies, misery) axis of two who are enemies anyway. When Mercury is at least 8 degrees from the Sun and Budha Adiyta yoga occurs, this weakness is lessened, but the transit begins in combustion. March 20 Vernal Equinox for USA, begins 12:30 am (00:30) EST. the Sun will be 5:55 Pisces March 23 Penumbral Lunar Eclipse in Virgo begins at 5:39 am and lasts until 9:54 am. This can be seen in the USA except for parts of the West coast. (keep in mind if you are pregnant or sick, it is best to stay inside and not view it.) even though Rahu and Ketu, the Upagrahas who are the eclipse points or shadows reside in different signs, note that they are fairly close in degree. March 25 Saturn will go retrograde at 22 degrees of Scorpio increasing its power and aspect on Jupiter. If you have any planet in the degree of 22, that planet will be �triggered� by this change, and Saturn will sit at this degree until April 13th. Mars will join in retrograde motion on April 18th. More about that next time! March 29 the Moon will be hemmed between Mars and Saturn in Scorpio. This condition is frustrating for decision making and fast progress.
