July 1st to July 31st 2017
|by Vachaspati Christina Collins|
We begin the month with Venus in own sign in Taurus, a loveable and embracing transit. The Sun, Mars and Mercury all in Gemini, with Mercury beginning to move out of its own sign in Bhadra yoga. (in an angle from the Moon), one of the Maha Purusha Raja Yogas. Rahu and Ketu continue in Leo and Aquarius in weak degrees all month and next (moving on September 8th), Venus strong in own sign of Taurus aspected by Jupiter is a lift from the intensity of Mars, Sun and Mercury transiting together this month. Moon and Jupiter transit close together in Virgo and can be viewed in the night sky. The other bright star near the Moon is Spica. The planets are a bit rough this month, which began last month with the retrogradation of Saturn once again into Scorpio, and will decline further this month, as Saturn’s dispositor moves from enemy sign of Mercury into debilitation in Cancer. A few good moments will continue as Venus continues in own sign of Taurus, receiving an aspect from Jupiter in Virgo
July 2 Mercury becomes sandi at 29’00 Gemini as it leaves its own sign of Gemini.
July 3 Mercury moves into Cancer. Mercury (who rules the intellect) transiting in Cancer, the sign ruled by the Moon, becomes unstable, unhappy and worried. The Moon is the fasted moving planet, it goes through a sign in 3 days, and changes Nakshatra or constellation (36 in all) daily. Mercury, already unstable as the planet that travels closest to the Sun, is often Retrograde as it is pulled by the gravity of the Sun, is further traumatized by placement or transit in Cancer. When you catch yourself worrying more, use the mantra “no” and say two positive, hopeful things to counteract it!
Also, the Moon is now in Libra (12th from Saturn in Scorpio), and in Sadi Sati (7 ˝ year transit of Saturn influencing the Moon. So, that is 3 days in libra, 3 days in Scorpio (with Saturn), and 3 days in Sagittarius) For everyone, this is a slowdown for the consciousness to focus in on the house matters (as numbered from your rising sign). For example, if you are Aries rising or Aries Moon (Chandra Lagna), then Libra is house 7, marriage or relationships. Scorpio is house 8th – unearned wealth, meditation and transcendence, and looking deeply into matters of significance. Sagittarius is house 9, father, authority figures, destiny and life purpose (dharma). In general, it is best to wait these 9 days before signing important documents. Sometimes, if Saturn is a functional benefic in the natal chart this is mitigated. It is an individual choice that an astrologer sometimes makes, so this transit is not a “hold” for everyone.
July 4 Happy Fourth of July and Independence Day for our American readers! The Pitta or hot planets Sun and Mars are cooled down a bit by having their current dispositor, Mercury, move to a watery sign of Cancer, and Mars now transits the requisite 8 degrees away from the Sun and at 25 degrees Mars is aspecting 5 degrees ahead of Jupiter’s position in Virgo, so we may not have as much fire danger as in other years. At least from their positions. However, note that Rahu and Ketu (in Fire and Air signs) are nearing zero degrees. (they always retrograde, 5-4-3-2-1-0, then 29 into the sign behind. This happens today EDT at 17:11:12 (5:11:12pm) which may be the beginning of the fireworks. Watch your children more than usual during this transit. Because in the natural zodiac (beginning with Aries) this is happening between houses 4 and 5 (mother and children). If you are Pisces rising this is between houses 5 and 6 (children and accidents).
Soon the nodes of the Moon, Rahu and Ketu, will move from their 18 months in Leo and Aquarius into Cancer and Capricorn. So, people who have fire sign and air sign planets/placements must still be careful around fire not just now, but for the next couple of weeks. (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius and Gemini, Libra and Aquarius).
July 9 Full Moon in Sagittarius. Happy Guru Purnima! (a day for honoring teachers, mentors and personal guides – our Gurus!) even nicer is that Jupiter is in an angle from the Moon (Gaja Keseri yoga)
A little later, Mars will become sandi at 29 degrees as it moves leaves Gemini (the home of an enemy, Mercury) and in the gap between the sign of an enemy and the sign (Cancer) of debilitation.
July 11 Mars moves into debilitation in Cancer. As this happens, the dispositor, Moon will still be transiting in Capricorn and will receive the aspect of Mars. This is Mars in Water, Moon in Earth. Be careful near lakes and rivers and rocky places, for Saturn (in Mars ruled Scorpio) will become more malefic (and already powerful in retrograde motion) as it aspects Capricorn. In other words, the transiting Moon will receive the aspect of both Malefics Mars and Saturn. So, this is a great day of caution in your travels and vacations. See the chart below: Mars aspects Mercury, Moon and Ketu while Saturn aspects the Moon, Venus and Rahu. Jupiter’s aspect to the benefics Moon and Venus will “sweeten” the Love and lessen the challenges. Slow down and focus is the rule of the day (a Tuesday, the day belonging to Mars)
July 15 is the last day of Gemini for another year. The Sun will be 29’00 at 5:44:59 EDT and will be in the “gap” for 24 hours until it reaches a degree of Cancer. Travel in Air or on Water may have challenges this day. (accidents, turbulence, delays.) Of benefit is the Gaja Keseri yoga (elephant/lion) of strength formed by the Jupiter and Moon opposition.
July 16 the Sun moves to Cancer and will be weak until Monday morning
July 17 the Sun will reach 1 degree of Cancer at 8:03:59 (Monday) as we see the Sun, Mars Mercury conjunction who transited together a month in an Air sign, now transit together in Water. This much fiery energy in a water sign, dries water up, so we may have a lot of high temperatures this month here in the Western hemisphere
. July 20 Mercury moves to 29’00 of Cancer as it begins a friendlier move into Leo. It becomes sandi at 6:53:59 am EDT.
July 21 Mercury moves to Leo. It joins Rahu in Leo, both nearly the same degree of zero. Rahu, Ketu and Mercury act like who they are with (conjunct), who aspects them, or the ruler of the sign they are posited in. The ruler of Leo, the Sun is transiting in the house or “loss” or 12th from sandi, zero degreed Mercury and Rahu and they are aspected by Saturn. These are just very difficult transits this month. Even Venus in own sign of Libra (love and wealth) is held in check by restrictive Saturn.
July 23 is the New Moon in Cancer. This is an improvement as this new moon is the Moon in Cancer in the wonderful and stable Nakshatra Pushyami.
July 25 This is a very challenging and disturbing combination. Mercury, Moon and Rahu will all transit together. This will be particularly onerous for the sign of Pisces, and perhaps Capricorn.
Classically, in medical jyotish if in a natal horoscope, Mercury, Moon and Rahu are posited in the 6th house, it is classically commented as “mental illness.” It is a weak conjunction, even weaker as Rahu and Ketu are still zero, planets which do not have strength. Add to that, that their dispositor, the Sun is transiting 12th from its own sign of Leo. For some, the saving grace will be the parivartana yoga of the Sun and Moon (they exchange houses, or the Sun is in the sign of the Moon, and the Moon is in the sign of the Sun). Pisces people should avoid decision of import until the nodes retrograde back to Cancer.
In addition, Venus will become sandi at 29’00 Taurus at 10’40am EDT. At least leaving own sign for a friend’s sign of Gemini.
July 25 Venus becomes sandi at 29’00
July 26 Venus moves to Gemini. These planetary changes from one sign to the next are more challenging all month, as the nodes are also zero degrees.
July 27 to 29 will be an improvement. 3 days of the Moon Conjunct Jupiter, which will beneficially influence Mercury, Rahu, the Sun and Mars.
July 30 and 31 will have the Moon close to Saturn again in Sadi Sati. Saturn wants us to focus on taking care of business. Throw out the old to make room for the new.
Next month we look forward to the exciting eclipse that will transit over the United States for the first time since 1979!
