February 1st to February 28th 2017
|by Vachaspati Christina Collins|
February begins with a Saturn transiting in the neutral sign of Sagittarius for the first time in 30 years. Saturn will transit back into Scorpio before it finally leaves the sign completely.
First set of Eclipses in 2017
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse will be on Feb 10 or Feb 11 depending upon where you live. The Annular Solar Eclipse will be on February 26th. We have the next set of eclipses when the Sun moves to Cancer with Rahu in August – and that will be a total eclipse (solar).
February 1, 2017
February 2 Mercury sandi at 29°00 Sag.
February 3 Mercury moves to Capricorn
February 4 Moon in high exaltation (3 degrees Taurus)
February 6 Jupiter goes retrograde at 29’2. Shortly after, same day Saturn stabilizes at 1’00 of arc.
February 11 Sun sandi at 29°00 (same degree as Jupiter) and Moon/Rahu 8th from the Sun in Leo, Magha.
February 11 Penumbral Lunar eclipse for 4 hours. Avoid important decisions today.
February 12 Sun moves to Aquarius Full Moon Partial eclipse
February 21 Sun and Ketu same degree. Combined with the Moon in Sadi Sati with Saturn – this day will feel intense and restrictive. Just a bit later, at 18:14:58 Mercury weakens at 29’00 sandi. As mercury is the most unstable planet due to its proximity to the sun, and the sun’s gravity, and as it is ruler of one of the air signs, and Jupiter is expanding this mercury energy (by position in Mercury’s other sign of Virgo, and where it also aspects Mercury by trine) -- travel, especially by air may be delayed or dangerous. A status quo day at best.
February 22 Mercury moves to Aquarius
February 22,23 and 24 Mercury will be hemmed between malefics Sun and Ketu this is papa ketari (sinner/scissors) yoga. Mercury, the planet of intellect and communication will be malefic by association. This is not a good 3 days for Murhurta or electional events as the Moon nears the Sun prior to the next eclipse.
February 26 Annular Solar Eclipse. While this one won’t have the full “punch” of the Total solar eclipse coming in August, it is still a time for inner work and reflection rather than the outward stroke. Not good or auspicious day for travel or business.
February 27 Mercury and Ketu will be the same degree in tight conjunction in Aquarius at 9’17 degrees. For Aquarius rising it could heighten intuition, for Leo rising it could bring conflict with partnerships with others. (the current President of the USA has Leo rising).
February 28 at 7:14:58 Mars becomes sandi at 29°00. This is a very challenging point in the zodiac as it is the last degree of the 360 degrees before it begins the cycle again in Aries.
March 1, 2017 This will be a difficult day. I wanted you to see it ahead of time, in case we publish late in the day next month. Just as Mars moves into its own sign of Aries, sandi at 00’00 degrees (no strength), the Moon in Pisces will be balarishta at 29°57. Balarishta means infant mortality, if you survive your birth it is Grace of God. There are three of these, when a planet, especially the Moon or rising sign, transit in the last degree (29) of a water sign. From Cancer to Leo, from Scorpio to Sagittarius, and from Pisces to Aries. The last is the most treacherous because it is also leaving the Zodiac to begin anew in Aries. Jupiter is the planet of luck and good fortune, and its dispositor, Mercury is tightly hemmed between Malefics Ketu and Sun and in the 6th house of accidents from Jupiter (as the karaka for good). This means thinking may be pitta (hot and fiery) based and making a wrong decision is likely. We could see air, water and fire disasters this day. Not good for selective surgery either. Mercury will be in charge, it is Wednesday, Mercury’s day. In addition, Saturn will be aspecting the Mercury, Ketu and Sun and for those who follow the outer planets the Sun and Neptune will be the same degree. Take it easy, pranayama, meditate. Not a good day for communication.
