Planetary Tips

December 1st to December 31st 2015

by Vachaspati Christina Collins

December begins with Jupiter on the ascendant in Leo, Rahu and Mars Conjunct in Virgo (in a malefic combination, at least they are now moving away from each other the nodes Rahu and Ketu are always in retrograde motion, and Mars is travelling direct), Venus powerful in her own moolatrikona sign of Libra, and in a Kendra (angle) from a lovely Moon in Ashlesha, Cancer in its own sign, yet hemmed between malefics Mars and Saturn in papa ketari yoga. (The bad scissors yoga when a planet is hemmed between two other bad planets.) Mars and Mercury continue in exchange of houses, Mars in Mercurys house of Virgo and Mercury in Mars house of Scorpio forming a Papa Ketari Yoga of enemies, and becoming part of a combust Surya sadthe sati (Saturn with Sun). Saturn continues in Scorpio for another year and a couple months, and Ketu will continue in Pisces until next summer.

At least we begin the month with Jupiter on the ascendant said to be healing for an entire chart!

December 5 Mercury becomes sandi in the sign of Scorpio as it begins to leave Parivartana yoga with Mars. This will unfortunately make Mars more malefic.

December 6 Mercury moves to Sagittarius. Now unaided Rahu/Mars conjunction in Virgo who is joined by the Moon who is hemmed between the two malefics, will prove more challenging for many signs, especially Gemini as it resides in their 4th house of emotional happiness and also for Pisces where this conjunction falls in the 7th house of partnership.

December 11 New Moon in Scorpio now this is a debilitated Moon in this sign, who is not only combust the Sun (which is why a New Moon is weaker than say a Full Moon when the moon is very far from the Sun), but also a Moon conjunct Saturn in Sadthe Sati! This might be very intense for Scorpio rising and Moon people, who will be tempted to spend money to feel better with Jupiter, Mars and Mercury aspected their 2nd house of spending. Also will give those signs a tendency to overindulge or over eat. Cheers!

December 15 the Scorpio Sun becomes sandi at 29 Scorpio as it leaves its friends Mars sign. The degrees are very wide and the effect should hopefully be minimal. It will be much more challenging next year when the Sun and Saturn will both be close in degree (2016) when this change occurs. Then we wont have it for another 30 years! Anyone can take anything as long as they know when it will be over, right?

December 16 the Sun moves to Sagittarius

December 18 this is a Friday morning when Moon will be the same degree as Ketu and Rahu, and also receiving the aspect of Mars. Thinking will not be clear with Jupiter the ruler of this Moon transiting 6th from it in Secata Yoga. (6/8 axis of Moon and Jupiter can mean a big loss can occur, often financial. Dont go shopping until moon moves past the degree of Ketu (and if you dont have the Parasharas Light software) wait till Sunday when the Moon has moved to Aries.

December 21 Winter Solstice the shortest day of the year

December 22 Mars goes sandi at 29 degrees of Virgo as it begins to leave its enemy Mercurys sign of Virgo for more neutral Libra. (at least for the wink of an eye. Once Mars gains a degree of strength, Venus will be in Scorpio)

December 23 Mars moves to Libra. This is happening the day before Christmas Eve, and Mars will be weak until it gains at least a degree of arc on Christmas day afternoon on the 25th . Even if you are not celebrating with alcohol yourself, if you must be driving these days prior to Christmas, please take great caution and be watchful of other drivers who might not be completely sober, or even distracted and driving too fast. Keep in mind that Mars loves to go fast, loves speed and will be joining Venus in own sign of Libra. (Venus = Love and with Mars = Love of Speed) of course once Mars gains strength by gaining one degree, then speed and danger can change to romance and passion. Cancer rising or Moon should be most cautions as this happens in the 4th house of travel for that sign. And also Pisces as this is the 8th house for them until around 4pm on Christmas day EST. Bottom line, be careful in vehicles, with fire, cooking knives (Mars rules piercing the skin) and over indulging. (Watch sports and stand up and shout that is what Mars enjoys)

December 24 Venus becomes sandi at 29 degrees of Libra as she leaves her own sign for another year. Mars will be weak at zero degrees in the same sign. Not so great for the planets of Love and Passion. (give him the ring on Christmas Day ?)

Christmas Day, Mars becomes strong as it gains a degree, Venus is on her way to strength, now we have a parivartana yoga between Venus and Mars as they exchange signs. Of course the Moon is in Ardra, one of the most difficult nakshatras, which will improve in a day on Saturday when it goes into Jupiters star Punarvasu one of the best!

Happy Holidays everyone! Look forward to next years Jyotish Star where the January issue will give predictions for the coming year 2016!
