Planetary Tips

April 1st to April 30th 2014

by Vachaspati Christina Collins

April begins with the Sun in Pisces at 17°17 Revati Nakshatra, Moon/Ketu in Aries in Ketus star Ashwini, Jupiter in Gemini still in Rahus star Ardra, and Mars, in malefic retrograde transit in Virgo Chitra (Mars star) Saturn has retrograded back out of the sandi degree of 29 in Libra conjunct Rahu and Venus and Mercury continue in Aquarius. Saturn and Venus are in parivartana yoga (exchanging signs) Libra is ruled by Venus and Aquarius is ruled by Saturn. This stabilizes Venus (the karaka for love, pleasure and money) and will help in spending and loving more wisely. Taking the premise that the Varshaphal chart (the annual chart when the Sun returns to the same and exact degree as the degree of your birth) predicts for the coming year. . .keeping in mind that no supporting or divisional chart stands alone, and must always be related to the birth chartand that the lunar return chart (the chart each month when the moon returns to the exact degree of the natal moon) are charts that are in use by neo-Vedic astrologersthen perhaps the first day of the monthly chart timed for midnight in the capitol of a country could apply as well. This April chart begins with Scorpio rising for Washington DC. Therefore the parivartana is the ruler of the 4th house, exchanging with the ruler of the 12th house. We could see losses in real estate this month if this premise holds.

In a few days Mercury and Jupiter will also be in parivartana as Mercury moves into Pisces.

April 3 Mercury becomes sandi at 29 Aquarius.

April 4 Mercury moves into debilitation in Pisces. (This neecha becomes neecha banga periodically as it transits in an angle from the rising sign or moon, or when Mercury is exalted in the navamsa. Were Jupiter to move into Cancer as it will in late March/April of 2015 then the exaltation of the dispositor and its trinal aspect also cancels debilitation. Not this year though, as Jupiter wont exalt until June.

April 8 Mars will aspect the Sun by degree. Normally this is an energizing and empowering condition. However the parivartana of Mercury and Mars exchanging signs (they are enemies) will make this day challenging and malefic. Be careful travelling especially by water or ground.

April 12 Sun moves into sandi position in Pisces. The most difficult degree in the zodiac is 29°00 Pisces. It is known as balarishta or infant mortality. The last degree of all water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) create balarishta but the last degree of Pisces is particularly difficulty for it is not only water moving into fire, but also the end of the zodiac as Pisces ends and Aries begins.

April 13 Sun moves to exaltation in Aries. This will be an interesting exaltation, as the Sun will be transiting again this year with Ketu, receiving aspects from Rahu and exalted Saturn differing from last year as a very malefic retrograde Mars in Virgo throws its 8th aspect at this Sun. The upside, is that it is vargottoma in the navamsa, and supported by initially a Gaja Keseri yoga and a dasa period of Moon and Jupiter. Also Jupiter, though still transiting in the difficult Ardra nakshatra gains status in its own sign in Pisces in the Navamsa. (And angular forming Hamsa in the Navamsa). Some authors feel that you cannot read yogas in the divisional charts. I have found in practice over the years, that they are definite players. Mars RX also moves from its own nakshatra to Hasta, the Moons nakshatra and Mars is in strong Chandra Mangala yoga by conjunction with the Moon, also in its own star of Hasta.

April 14 Still a Sandi Sun in Ashwini, and Moon and Mars in same degree in Hasta, Virgo, in the 6th house of accidents from the Sun. at least Jupiter is in the lagna, and Mercurys debilitation is cancelled this day as it resides in the 7th angle from the Moon.

April 15 TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE today today as well as tomorrow will be the days that the parivartana yoga between Mars and Mercury will be the most challenging. Mercury is in debilitation, the dispositor of Mars RX, Mercury . . . and on the 16th they will be the same degree. It is Mercurys day as well, increasing the negative effect. Add to that situation, Mars ruled exalted Sun in Aries is in close degree to Ketu (causing a total lunar eclipse with the full moon in Libra, and Mars aspects this as well. Also the full Moon is hemmed between malefics Rahu and Saturn. This papa ketari yoga is more challenging on the 15th.

The Apr 15th eclipse will begin at 12:55 am (EDT Washington DC) and reaches totality at 3:43 AM and where visible we will see a full, red moon.

April 18 the moon is debilitated and Rahu and Ketu are the same degree as the Sun.

April 19 Mercury is Sandi at 29°00 as it moves towards Aries out of debilitation. This destabilizes Mars and Jupiter.

April 20 Mercury moves to zero Aries. Although a Mercury/Ketu connection is very good for the study of astrology, this Mercury Ketu is particularly malefic in Aries. You may remember in 1995 the Oklahoma bombing occurred with this conjunction. (This was 18 or 19 years ago, so some of you wont remember this event.)

While the Sun, Mercury and Ketu transit together, it is volatile. Increased by the fact that this time, Mars aspects this 3 planet conjunction.

In the Oklahoma City bombing chart, of April 19th, 1995 -- Mars was weak, debilitated, the ascendant lord was exalted, Saturn was strong and angular in its own sign and a benefic Jupiter aspected the debilitated Mars, which is why we always check out the Navamsa. Where Mars transits exalted.

April 24 Jupiter moves to Punarvasu, its own sign! Both today and tomorrow the 25th a nice Venus/Moon conjunction aspected by Jupiter on Thursday, Jupiters day, then Friday, Venus day! A little needed uplift for the weekend!

April 26 Venus will be 29 degrees Aquarius as it leaves parivartana with Saturn and moves into exaltation in Pisces.

April 27 Venus exalts in Pisces! Sandi at 00 today, it will strength as it gains a degree of arc.

April 29 The first SOLAR ECLIPSE of 2014 with the exalted Sun and New Moon in Aries, hemmed by the malefics Mercury and Ketu and aspected by the rest of the malefics. Rahu, Saturn and Mars. . . we will not see the eclipse in the United States, for it will occur at night.

To end up on a good note heres a little taste of honey. On May 1st not only the Sun, but the Moon, and its dispositor, Venus will all be exalted. Looking forward!
