Planetary Overview for 2014
Future Formations from a
Neo-Vedic Perspective

By Charlotte Benson

It seems to me that there are two major levels of planetary patterns influencing conditions in this most amazing year of 2014. One embedded level is produced by Uranus (representing the spirit of the times/revolt/urge to liberty/the inevitable future/the unknown) challenging Pluto (representing the purposely hidden; the plutocracy; struggle for control and domination; manipulation; exploitation; shadow issues on any scale; life-force/death/re-birth). This planetary conflict is already in play, and continues a major theme of revolution and earth changes for the duration of 2014.

And the other level of influence is the potentially really positive counter-point of Jupiter and Saturn both being exalted at the same time. This rare and wonderful state occurs from 6/20/2014 11/3/2014.

At the macro level, Uranus continues to be in square aspect (conflict) with Pluto. Although these two transcendental, outer planets are not recognized in traditional Jyotisha, their mutual stress contacts have been observed to be synchronous with major transformations in cultures and the environment. Uranus and Pluto have very long orbits, so when they do come in rare contact with each other, they maintain that connection over a period of several years. In this phase of global upheaval, the exact contact between Uranus and Pluto is maintained until the Spring of 2015, at the earliest. The consequences of that connection are wide ranging, and the resulting changes in consciousness, politics, economics, geologic and atmospheric conditions, and religions, are radical and permanent. Life as we know it cannot be the same as before this aspect formed. So this is the over-arching context of all the other faster-moving planetary movements in 2014, I think.

Uranus squaring Pluto has had a lot of bad press, lately, for justifiable reason. Weve already seen remarkable anomalies in weather patterns, and radical shifts in positions of governing officials and their agencies and influences, world-wide. The on-going extinction of species; the threat to the very safety of the most basic of human requirements, non-toxic food and water and oxygen; earth changes brought about by climate change these problems are the consequences of the clash of these two titanic planets.

Uranus moves through Pisces, beginning 2014 in the nakshatra of Uttara Bhadrapada. This stars deity is Ahirbudhnya, who is associated with the concepts of: restraint, foreign things, and high knowledge. News connected with these concepts could generate in people or places whose nama/name/sound is Jya. Uranus moves into Revati nakshatra on 3/1/2014, and stays there into 2015. Revatis deity, Pushan, is connected with nurturing, food, safe travel. Its a watery star. Its name sound begins with Day. Pluto travels through Sagittarius, in Purvashadha nakshatra. Varuna is the deity of this star, and is associated with all things aquatic fishermen, ships, sea life. Plutos current nakshatra sound is Dah. The element of water oceans, rivers, water supply - is important now.

The good news is that this planetary pattern has formed many times before, and planet Earth has survived, and evolved. Conscious choices made by conscious humans can alter the outcome of this current, very difficult Uranus/Pluto square.

The other good news is that there is a very rare and wonderful situation in 2014, where Jupiter is exalted (in Cancer, every 12 years) during Saturns exaltation phase (in Libra, only every 30 years, or so.) Exaltation implies that the planet is in its highest and best use, comfortable sign. This amazing confluence of two happily conditioned planets can provide excellent relief and protection from unsettling Uranus/Pluto issues. And could provide many new options for peace and prosperity through creative problem-solving. Thank Heaven!

2014 begins with Jupiter in the sign of its planetary enemy, Gemini, in Punarvasu nakshatra, until it retrogrades back into Ardra nakshatra, from 1/16/2014, until 4/24/2014. Ardras deity is Rudra, the lord of storms, and is linked to destructive wind-driven weather and events. Names associated with this star begin with the sound Koo, Ghaa, Jna, and/or Cha. Jupiter returns to Punarvasu (an easier nakshatra, associated with restoration and renewal) on 4/24/14. That stars deity is virtuous Aditi, the mother of the demi-gods. Jupiter then enters Cancer, his favorite space on 6/20/2014. This is much anticipated, as Jupiter has the strongest power to support and protect his own values and interests, some of which are: higher education; Truth; children and young people; wealth, prosperity and social stability; high moral and ethical behavior; material evolution; healthy and intelligent choices; generosity, understanding, tolerance, and peacefulness. People and place names beginning with the sounds Kay, Ko, Haa or Hee may do especially well.

Jupiter enters Pushya nakshatra on 7/4/2014. Its presiding deity, Brihaspati, is associated with higher knowledge, among many other excellent functions. This nakshatra is famously auspicious for almost anything but marriage! Jupiter can bestow many blessings while in this portion of the sky. People or place names beginning with the sounds Hoo, Hay, Ho, or Daa may especially prosper.

There is a very interesting shift in the relationship between Jupiter and Saturn, in the summer of 2014. As Jupiter transits through Gemini, it throws a supporting trine onto Saturn, in Libra. This has a strong, uplifting effect on public psychology. The rising tide lifts all - world markets, and business, in general. All Saturn indicators improve gas and oil; mining, manufacturing; the common people, old folks and the poor, in particular. In the U.S., the Democratic party has been assigned to Saturns rule. This is a generically good atmosphere for starting or expanding businesses. So in general the first half of 2014 is the most positive. The U.S. Congress may actually get some bi-partisan work done.

As soon as Jupiter enters the sign of Cancer, (6/20/14) Saturn loses the beneficial gaze of Jupiter. Not only that, but Saturn is now in a position to throw its special full 10th house aspect onto Jupiter. Bummer. So - the happy effect of the previous six months is reversed. Jupiters significators, even though exalted, are diminished somewhat by Saturns constricting attention. Financial markets may pull back during this time. Interest rates may finally, slowly go up. Partisan politics again reach new lows. There is a much more cautious business atmosphere. By mid-June, be sure to protect the gains that you will have made.

Amazingly, the business climate shifts back into consumer confidence and better index numbers, when Saturn enters Scorpio, on 11/3/2014. Jupiter re-forms its beneficent gaze on Saturn, and maintains support for slow but steady economic growth well into 2015.

Jupiters move into Cancer, the constellation of home and family, in the summer, is beneficial for the real estate and housing sector. Family and tribal bonds may become stronger; there may be a resurgence of patriotism and national isolationism, and security concerns seem to justify xenophobic behavior. Mores may become a bit more conservative or traditional. Saving money may become more important than spending it during the next 12 months of Jupiter in Cancer.

The Moons North Node (Rahu) backs through Swati nakshatra, until it enters Chitra on 2/14/14. Rahu then enters the sign of Virgo on 7/14/2014 this is a big shift. Pay attention to matters of the house that is ruled by Virgo, in your birth chart. Rahu there can make issues related to competence, and purity, (Virgo concepts) erupt in very complex ways. Complexity and toxicity are Rahus hallmarks. The up side of this shift is that Saturn (remaining in Libra until 11/3/2014) and Rahu separate for a while, and get some peace and space from each other.

The sign of Virgo receives a lot of planetary stimulation in 2014. I believe this indicates stress, conflict and increased news about, and creative developments related to: medicine, health care, farming practices, animal welfare, GMO grains, infectious disease control, pharmaceuticals, integrative medicine, and generally more consciousness about health and nutrition and sanitation. Also, young people, and young women in particular, figure more prominently. Everyone can benefit from Mars long transit through Virgo by refining their useful skills; cultivating discrimination; and paying extra attention to details. Striving for perfection, without losing sight of the big picture is the ideal. Intellectual skills, manual skills, creative problem-solving on both practical and metaphysical levels = Mars and Rahu in Virgo (especially in mid-July 2014.)

Those with Mars-ruled ascendants could have quite a wild year in 2014. Mars transits through the sky in contact with serious malefic planets (especially in early/mid-February, and again in mid-July of 2014). Of course this energy could make anyone a bit frantic! However, in happy contrast, Mars also transits the sign of Scorpio where it behaves constructively and transits Capricorn, the sign of its exaltation in the latter part of 2014, with excellent possibilities for gain, especially for those Aries and Scorpio ascendants.

In fact, for any ascendant (the ascendant has a very specific personal influence, much more so than Sun signs) the year 2014 has a lot of lovely features, in addition to the above. There are a few days in this current year that see many planets in their exaltation signs. This produces good conditions and effects. A few of these special days with multiple exalted planets are: 4/30/14, and 5/1/14; 6/25/14; and 9/13 -9/14/14. There are also many parivartana yogas throughout 2014. This occurs when planets exchange energy with each other in a way that produces short periods of opportunities for extra coherence and growth. Well let you know the details of these useful formations (yogas) as they occur.

There is nothing like destiny in Astrology. Astrology simply indicates, and give the greatest scope for the development of will power, by means of which one can either counteract evil indications, or augment the favorable influences. - B.V. Raman
