Planetary Portrait: Canada's
New Prime Minister

By Jyoti Devi Charlotte Benson

Justin Trudeau Canada's New Prime MinisterJustin Trudeau was recently elected Prime Minister by an enthusiastic majority of Canadians. He seems to have just about the perfect horoscope for this important position.

Born in Ottawa, Canada, at 9.27 pm on Christmas day in 1971, Mr. Trudeau’s birth planets offer much support for his rise in life. His ascending sign is Leo, and specifically the nakshatra of Magha “The Magnificent.” This often marks special prominence because of personal charisma, leadership ability, and a certain type of nobility, in the best cases. His ruling planet, the Sun, falls in the auspicious 5th house. This position doubles the likelihood of achieving high status in life, especially in the realm of government and politics. (If you are born between around 8:00 pm and 10:00pm, -- you may have a variation of this positive placement, too.) The 5th house is said to
confer benefits from previous incarnations, or “purva poonya,” and benefits specifically bestowed from the father. You may have heard that his Dad was also a very popular Canadian prime minister.

Justin Trudeau’s Sun is further supported by being flanked by the two most benefic planets, Venus and Jupiter. Venus is in Capricorn, his Sun is in Sagittarius, and Jupiter is in Scorpio. This creates a nice impact on his character and morals, according to the classics.

Revati, in the constellation of Pisces, is where the Moon was residing at Mr. Trudeau’s birth. The Moon is said to be very comfortable while in the nakshatra of Revati, and confers kindness, beauty, hospitality, concern for protecting people and animals, inclusiveness, creativity in the arts, and often wealth. It’s true that the Moon falls in the traumatic and dramatic 8th house of this chart - obviously not ideal for his peace of mind. But this same house position also forces development of emotional depth and strength. And gives substance to the personality; and the ability to understand and cope with hidden agendas, power, political machinations, and many other complex issues which are no doubt part of the job description of Prime Minister.

Mars, which typically functions as a troublesome planet, becomes a great shining force for Leo rising people. So, Mars in Pisces, being close to Mr. Trudeau’s Moon actually serves this young man’s spiritual ability to cope with the important and intense responsibilities of running a first-world country. Luckily, he also enjoys the huge advantage of having wise and well-placed Jupiter, the ruler of this Pisces Moon, throwing its trine aspect onto it. The more I look into this chart, the more I like it!

In terms of exceptional career success, it seems Justin (I feel that we are now on a first-name basis) was pretty much assured of that from the moment of birth. Saturn occupies his 10th house of career. According to the ancient shastras, this placement predicts that he will become “the leader of his village.” Quite a large village, indeed, one of the largest countries on earth! This powerfully placed Saturn is also involved in a very useful parivartana yoga with Venus: Saturn is in Venus’ sign (Taurus), while Venus is in Saturn’s sign (Capricorn.) To add frosting to this planetary cupcake, Saturn is also aspected by Jupiter. We can see why he won the prime ministership – and will probably be very effective and generally well-liked. His angular Mercury, conjunct Jupiter, suggests that he is not just a pretty face, but that he has real intellectual talents, and great communicating abilities.

Also – the timing, in terms of transiting planets to his birth chart, could hardly be better. Fabulous Jupiter entered P.M.-Elect Trudeau’s all-important first house this past summer! And the rest, as they say, is history.
