Birth of Jesus the Christ |
Jyotish Star December 2011 |
| By Vachaspati Christina Collins In December our thoughts turn to the birth of Jesus and celebrations of his birthday, Christmas. We have had several emails and even phone requests to write about the chart of Jesus. First of all, there are many views out there on the actual month, and even year. Some people use December 25th, some April or March! Today we will focus on the December chart. In the spring we may revisit this topic in the spring of 2012 Jyotish Star. In the chart of Jesus Christ we used data based on the work of Cyril Fagan of western sidereal astrology fame. My grandfather, Ralph McCrady (born July 7th, 1897, Attica, Kansas and also Irish. J ) was a sidereal biblical astrologer, born the year after Cyril Fagan. (Cyril Fagan was born in Dublin, Ireland May 22nd 1896). He too used the December 25th -7BC date. However, in grandfathers later years he explored the spring dates of the same year, 7 BC with the Pisces instead of the Capricorn Sun. (Keep in mind that precession since the year 7 BC has moved the Capricorn Sun of Jesus back to the Sagittarius Sun of December 25th that we celebrate today in 2011.) I feel the most important thing about this birth year 7 AD, is the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in Pisces. In the December chart, there is a Pisces Moon, in the spring a Pisces Sun. Even in theoretical biblical astrology (according to Stowe) we are viewing the birth of the Sun as paralleled to the birth of the Son. At this point I would like to add an aside and thank British Vedic Astrologer Andrew Foss of Canada for giving all of us his Shri Jyoti Star vedic astrology software, giving us the ability to calculate BC dates. (and for the year minus seven). Jesus the Christ December 25th, 7 BC 10:18 pm 31N43 Longitude 35E13 Latitude Lahiri ayanamsa ![]() Jesus had Virgo rising (born of the Virgin) with the auspicious Jupiter in its own sign of Pisces along with spiritual Saturn, the ruler of the 5th house of purva poonya (past life credit), and the 6th house of service conjunct in the 7th house. This alone indicates an incarnation of service to others (the 7th house is others, the public, partnerships anyone other than the self which is of course the first house). The sixth is the house of service because is is 10th from the 9th house. The ninth house is the dharma or life purpose, the 10th is the occupation or career. This is why the 6th is the house of service because it is how we serve the dharma, or the occupation, of the dharma by using this system of derived houses. Moon, the lord of the 11th house of gains is in the 7th in the good nakshatra UttaraBhadrapada, a star of Saturn. Pushyami in Cancer and UttaraBhadrapada, both Saturn stars are considered the best of the 27 nakshatras. The energy of Saturn is grounding and anchoring. The Moon, the fastest moving planet, gets stabilized by residing in a Saturn star. Even the 3rd Saturn ruled nakshatra, Anurada is considered fortunate. If you have to incarnate with a debilitated moon, hope that it is in Anurada, due to this supporting effect. The moksha lord, (ruler of the 12th house) resides in the 5th house of the mind, with Mercury the ruler of the Virgo rising, and the 10th house of occupation Gemini. Ketu, the moksha ruling planet, is in the gap before exaltation, between the 2nd house of speech and the 3rd house of communication, showing how the karmic intention would express. Jesus is known for his speaking and communicating to the masses. His words have survived the ages. The nodes of the moon, Rahu and Ketu represent the energies of Karma (the law of action, what goes out returns) Rahu is held to represent what we have come to learn, and Ketu, what fortifies us, to help us learn. In the chart of Jesus, Rahu and Ketu are in the gap, or sandi at 29°58 (out of 30 degrees to a sign). This is the transition between Rahu in the sign of Aries (the Ram, or Lamb, in Krittika (Suns nakshatra) and Taurus Krittika. Ketu in Libra Vishakha (Jupiters star of obedience to religious doctrine and dissemination associated with Indra and Agni -- bringing water in times of drought. (Jesus first disciples were fisherman, and he is noted to have exhibited the siddhi of walking on water.) The nodes of course are the eclipse shadows or upaha grahas (shadow grabbers), they attract energy to themselves for cause and effect. They are always opposite each other and retrograde in motion, so they were transiting just in the transcendent point before exaltation in the gap between the signs of Aries/Taurus and Libra/Scorpio. They are also sandi at 29°50 in the gap near debilitation in the Navamsa, Rahu in Sagittarius and Ketu in Gemini. They reside in the 2nd and 7th marakas just moving toward the house of self and the public (one and seven) . Another point of interest to me in the nodes is that they form a version of kala sarpa yoga that I have researched. Note that the version of kala sarpa yoga in the natal chart of Jesus Christ forms when Rahu, then the Lagna, then Ketu occur in the chart, with all of the planets (except the lagna) outside of the nodes, or what I refer to as a reverse kala sarpa yoga. Kala means time, sarpa means snake. The nodes, Rahu, and Rahus body Ketu are pictorially depicted as a snake, and represent karma. When Rahu is first, followed by all the planets, then Ketu -- it is called a kala sarpa yoga, or the swallowing up of all the planets by the snake of time. To have kala sarpa yoga is considered a high birth, indicating someone has come in to work out a LOT of karmas to work on. Sometimes, if other indications in the chart point to service or karma yoga (as it does in the chart of Jesus) one comes in to the take on the karmas of others. (To take on their sins). Of course the chart of Jesus indicates this by virtue of the fact that only the lagna, or self is between the nodes, and those nodes are in the transcendent before exaltation. The karma is further a heavy load to bear as witnessed in the almost debilitation of the nodes in the navamsa. A true kala sarpa, where we incarnate to work off a lot of personal karma, with great extremes of high tide/low tide, must begin with a moveable (cardinal) sign (Rahu in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn) with all of the planets between Rahu and Ketu. (the swallowing up of all of the planets by the snake). Having a kala sarpa yoga is generally held to be an indicator of a high birth. Just as we would not try to teach a young child complicated higher mathematics like trigonometry, we would say two and two is four, because that is what they can handle learning at first. Kala sarpa, a true one, indicates that the soul is strong enough to take on the learning of the lessons of many karmas and sometimes much suffering, in one incarnation. Note here that high does not mean an easy cushy time. It means strong and capable. Mars, the ruler of the Aries Rahu is ruler of the 3rd and 8th in the 6th house of service from the rising and 12th house from the Pisces (the sign of two fish) Moon. Vipreet raja yoga occurs from both Virgo rising, and from the Moon. (vipreet raja yoga happens when the ruler of a dustanas (houses 6, 8 and 12) resides in another dustana. This is supposed to lift them up and give the experience of exaltation for these ruling planets. I have found them to increase power and prominence, but not necessarily give an easy time. Mars, the planet of passion (the eventual passion of the Christ) influences both the 6th house of service and the 12th house of enlightenment. It is exalted in Capricorn in the navamsa in the 9th from Taurus rising (again were I rectifying the chart personally, I would change the birth time from 18 to 16 minutes, giving an Aries rising in the Navamsa, the lagna of the ram or lamb). Mars, ruler of the 12th in the navamsa is 6th from the Leo (the king) Moon. And, Moon is in the 4th house of the heart chakra, and Jesus is often depicted with a symbolic heart on his chest. Fourth house moon makes the Mother prominent, which is obvious as he had only virgin Mary, his mother, his father was God, and he was an avatar or bodhisattva. In reviewing his relatively short life of 30 years we note that the Rasi 8th house ruler being Mars can generally shorten the lifetime for Virgo rising charts. (Mars likes things to happen quickly, and ruling the house of death can shorten a lifetime) When checking the ashtakavarga points, the chart of Jesus has only 20 points in the 8th house, one indicator of a short stay incarnated. (25 points or more create strength, and it is quantum each point is a big change). His Pisces Moon, the planet that represents the mind, at 6°01 is in near exact degree with Uranus at 6°52. My grandfather taught me that Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury (the planetary representative of the intellect aspect of the mind). He felt that expansive minds or consciousness occur when Uranus, Moon or Mercury connect strongly with each other by degree. In fact, that is why he instructed me in astronomy and astrology because my UttaraBhadrapada Moon at 4°46 is square (in a Kendra from) Uranus in Gemini at 5°51, in near exact degree. This is one reason he was a fan of naming me Christina which means little follower of Christ.. In the Mesopotamian times the Persian astrologers were referred to as wise men and these wise men knew from their astrological/astronomical calculations that a Bodhisattva (an enlightened spiritual teacher) would incarnate with the rare and great conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in the sign of enlightenment, Pisces. (I suspect this is one reason Fagan and others used the year 7 BC for the birth of Jesus.) Astrologers (wise men) travelled to Bethlehem to be present at this auspicious birth. Thanks to Vedic Astrologer Steve Stuckey who astronomically captured what the western horizon looked like in Bethlehem at the exact Fagan birth time. Jupiter is the brightest planet and Saturn is just below it. The Moon and Uranus have already set below the horizon. First, I would state, that ALL birth is spiritual in nature. Just to be blessed with a human incarnation, is in itself a spiritual event. It is generally conceded among astrologers that a spiritual birth occurs when Jupiter and Saturn connect in some way, by conjunction (in the same sign) or opposition (opposite signs) is held to be the strongest influence, for they are then in mutual aspect. Jupiter in a trine to Saturn, or Saturn throwing its 3rd or 10th aspect on Jupiter will both indicate and produce a religious or spiritual outlook in an individual, and the inclination to pursue knowledge and truth. All people have a Jupiter and a Saturn placement somewhere in their chart. Jupiter and Saturn and their vibratory energies express as the great teachers of the planetary zodiac. Jupiter gives wisdom, truth, and knowledge, Saturn guides us through our life lessons, where and how we grow, what we need to learn in order to progress, and the hard taskmaster. Both indicate potential spiritual progress. The influence of our free will, of course, determines which road we choose to take, and whether or not we take advantage or live up to our spiritual potential. In the chart of Jesus Christ, Jupiter and Saturn are spiritually placed in the sign of Pisces, and in close to exact degree. Jupiter is 21°54 and 20°38 for Saturn. Both planets can be seen by the naked eye, without a telescope, and in conjunction with the moon, it would indeed make a very bright star in the sky, for the wise men to follow. (The next time we see this conjunction will be in the year 2320, and the degrees will be very wide. well, someone will see it, maybe not us) It is very unusual and rare, as was the birth of a Christ. The next time it will occur will be in the year 2320. Because Jupiter moves about a sign a year, and takes 12 years to complete the zodiac, and Saturn, about 2 and 1/2 years to go through a sign, the conjunction can only happen every 60 years. (Just as we have a natal Saturn return every 30 years, when we are 60 years old, or thereabouts, we experience once again the Saturn and Jupiter return to the birth positions of our charts). The connection between these two planets, the sign where they are posited, and the houses where they resign along with the aspecting influence from the other planets, and whether or not they influence or connect in some way to the individuals lagna (rising sign) all determine the degree of spirituality and how it will manifest. In 2010, Jupiter was in Pisces and Saturn opposite in Virgo. This spiritual Jupiter, in his own sign of Pisces, with Saturn in Virgo, the sign of the Virgin will give the potential of great spiritual progress, and the likeliness that great spiritual seekers will manifest from many who were born in 2010. The extent, of course, dependent upon the variables involved. Happy Holidays and wishing you all the blessings of the season! Christina Collins Biography:
